Meanwhile on the boat: JJ pov

               I look over the edge of the boat for Adeline but she's already too deep for me to see under the murky water.

"Shit. JJ." Pope says making me turn around to see the police patrol boat pull up next to us.

"Yup, that's the police," John B mumbles as if it weren't already obvious.

I glare at him before straightening up and walking to stand next to Pope.

"Just act frickin' normal," Kie says, fixing her hair also standing alongside us as if we are trying to block the edge of the boat.

"Evening, officers," Pope says nodding towards the cops as John B sends them a small wave.

"Evening."

Pope hands me the rope to the patrol boat,

"JJ, tie it off."

I walk back into the conversation hearing the cop-speak,

"How you kids doing? You know the marsh is closed?" we all fake confusion looking at each other before turning back to the cops still on their boat,

"No."

"No. Wow."

"I didn't know that."

"Why-- why is it closed?"

The cop sighs before scratching his head,

"Well, we're conducting a search out here. Boat went down."

John B huffs, looking at the waters around us,

"Oh?"

The cop steps forward,

"Seen anything?"

"No."

"No boats. No."

He hums looking at us all individually,

"Where's that girl friend of yours? Adeline Kinley?"

My cheeks immediately heat up as a blush spreads across them. I cough a bit as I glance at my feet,

"girl-girl friend?" John B winks at me as the cop raises an eyebrow,

"She's working today, couldn't come out," Kie shouts out looking towards the cop.

The cop nods his head seeming convinced,

"Hm, what a shame." We all nod our heads along with him as he moves forward,

"I'm gonna check your little boat out."

We move out of the way so he could hop on,

"Okay."

"Yeah, hop aboard."

I start to sweat way more than usual as he walks closer to the bow looking into the water.

Adeline was definitely almost out of air and will need to come up for air soon.

"Yeah, hop aboard." John B says bowing towards the cop awkwardly before going to sit on the stern.

"Uh... you got another one?" The cop asked, holding up a life jacket.

"Yeah, yeah." Pope nods.

"-Of course. It's, uh... it's in the hold." I point to where Kiara was standing.

"Here show him," Kie says moving next to Pope.

He nods mumbling good, good before stepping on the very edge of the bow.

I suck in a breath as Pope tells him to be careful.

I let out a deep breath taking a step away and head back to his patrol boat,

"Beautiful day. Let us know if you see anything on your way out."

I nod giving them a wave and made sure they were far enough away before rushing to the bow.

We all hover debating whether to jump in and get her or not.

"Should we-" Pope starts but stops once we see Adeline's head pop out of the water.

"Holy shit Adeline, you okay?" I hurriedly asked, reaching for her hand to pull her up onto the boat.

She takes a deep breath of air grabbing my hand tightly,

"I'm good. I'm good. I ran out of air."

Once she's up the latter I pull her into a tight hug as she lets out a breath hugging me back.

"What'd you find?" John B eagerly asked.

Adeline giggles slipping off the scuba gear and handed John B a cylinder can as he took it graciously mumbling many thank you's.

"The uh cops were here but we took care of them," Pope says wringing his hands together anxiously.

I take a glance at Adeline to see her scuba gear free and staring at something behind me.

I turn seeing a boat coming straight at us

"Hey, guys? Guys, bogey, two o'clock."

I glance to John B then Adeline seeing her look slightly scared I grab onto her hand to give it a squeeze before pulling up getting the bowline as we race out of the marsh.
