You and Cedric sat in the train car waiting for your friends to arrive. The two of you chatted amongst yourselves. As you were listening to Cedric talk about the strategies he had planned for this quidditch season, your friends arrived in the car and immediately interrupted you.
"Have you guys heard?!" Justin Finch-Fletchley gasped as he made his way in between you and Cedric. You and Cedric looked at each other confused, obviously not knowing what was going on. Hannah interrupted him and said, "Everybody's talking about something big happening this year!" she was met with scared faces from you and the others, "Oh bloody hell nothing bad! It's supposedly quite exciting!" Everyone let out a sigh of relief. The car filled with laughter, Susan lightly shoving Hannah's shoulder.
Susan, Justin and Hannah had Cedric entranced in what they were saying. You couldn't be bothered. Schooling at Hogwarts was already great enough for you. Every bit of it was enjoyable for you, except maybe charms with professor Flitwick. Having this big, exciting yet unknown event at school seemed like quite a bother to you, but you wouldn't let anyone know that. It might even make the school year more exciting, you would just have to find out.
Your friends' conversation only grew more intense. Smiles filled the car and laughs could be heard down the aisles of the train. However, after you all had changed into your robes and were settling down to await the train's arrival, you had picked up a book on the Troll Wars, as it was quite quiet. From the corner of your eyes you could see Cedric. You quietly admired him, seeing the excitement in his eyes as they talked about the possibilities which this school year held.
You've had the tiniest crush on Cedric since you two met on the platform your first year. The small group of friends you shared had grown close. After your first year sorting ceremony Cedric had saved you a seat at the Hufflepuff table, "positively knowing" you too would be sorted into the same house. Across from you sat Hannah and Susan, and on the other side of Cedric was Justin. The five of you introduced yourselves and talked the whole feast, becoming great friends. Six years later, the five of you were still inseparable, causing mischief throughout the halls of the school. You looked forward to going to Hogwarts every year; the magic was great, the food was exceptional, but most of all you just wanted to see and spend time with your friends. They gave you something to look forward to. They made Hogwarts home.
Of the five, you and Cedric spent the most time with each other. The two of you would always do homework in the library together, spend extra hours on the quidditch pitch practicing, linger in the common room together until Cedric had to patrol the corridors, take each weekend in Hogsmeade to drink butterbeer and buy candy for everyone, walk to every class together and he always saved you a seat at every meal. It was never boring. You two just seemed to click.
Since that day on the platform, you have always had some small feelings for Cedric. Around the middle of your second year they had grown much larger. You hadn't told a soul and thought it better that way. Cedric and you were too close of friends to let anything come between you, but if you were to reveal how you felt your second year you were too scared you would've ruined the close friendship you had created. A small part of you always wanted to act on these feelings, but you knew you couldn't; he's your best friend. The longer you pushed them to the back of your mind the more you forgot about them.
