Adrian sank back against the sofa, staring at Freddie.
"God," he muttered finally.
"I know," Fred said bitterly.
He buried his face in his hands, sobbing quietly.
Adrian reached across to hug him.
"It's okay, Freddie. It wasn't your fault."
"I never even told Tom the truth," Fred whispered.
"You weren't allowed to," Dom said kindly. "I'm sure he'll understand when you tell him."
"If I ever see him again," Fred said miserably.
"I'm sure you will," Adrian said firmly. "The investigation is moving along, just..."
"Slowly," Fred said. "Oh, God," he said suddenly, gripping Adrian's arm painfully tightly.
"What?"
"What if Elliot... What if he took Tom?" He said desperately.
Dom and Adrian stared at him for a moment.
"Dom, call those policemen back," Adrian said. "Don't worry, Freddie, we'll tell them everything."
Dom called the number on the card the two policemen had left, and asked them to come back.
An hour later, Tom's disappearance had been explained to the two policemen, and both they and Dom had left for the police station.
Adrian had called Rex and Eli, and they'd both come over to hear Fred's story, and help to comfort him while they waited for news.
