"Mr. and Mrs. Wilson. It's a pleasure to meet you." Dylan tried his best attempt at smiling. According to Camilla's lawyer, the Wilsons were Camilla's foster parents. In Miami. Dylan did not like the look of them. Mrs. Wilson looked rather haughty. She had high cheekbones dusted with rosy powder and narrow black eyes. Her mouth was just a thin pink line. Her husband was shorter than her and slightly plump. He wore a smile that didn't reach his eyes.
"And who...are you?" Mrs. Wilson asked, examining Dylan. Her voice was rather high pitched. She made the hairs at the back of his neck stand up.
"I am Camilla's boyfriend" he looked at Camilla but her gaze was fixed on the ground.
"Well that won't be for much longer, will it then dear?" Dylan stared at Mrs. Wilson, trying to comprehend what she was trying to say.
"I don't... understand?"
"You see, Camilla is going to marry a nice boy... in Miami"
Camilla's head snapped up and Dylan clenched his fist. Mrs. Wilson took Camilla's hand and fingered the roses around the diamond.
"This was given by you wasn't it, sweetie?" she gave a sickly-sweet smile and looked down again. She snatched the ring off Camilla's finger and threw it at Dylan. He caught it, looking shocked. Camilla took her hand away from Mrs. Wilson's grasp.
"I am not going to marry someone in Miami." Camilla shook her head feverishly and grabbed Dylan's hand. Mr. Wilson laughed.
"Have you forgotten that we are your foster parents?" he took a step closer to her "you will do as we say. Our house our rules. Let's go, Amy, these two might as well say their final goodbyes" he gave a wide-toothed smile and beckoned Mrs. Wilson and they moved away
"This is the boarding call for all passengers traveling in Fairlake airlines, Flight one-oh-four, please proceed to gate number six" the boarding announcement was making it final. She really was going. Dylan's heart sank to the bottom. In a couple of hours, she'll be in Miami. He couldn't think anymore. It was like his brain had shut down and now his heart was controlling him because tears were beginning to prick his eyes.
She turned around to face him and a tear fell from his eye. "You can't be going Cami...please say this is some horrible dream"
"Dylan..." he couldn't bear to see Camilla crying. He pulled her close to him and embraced her as tightly as he could
Dylan felt angry. She was going to Miami. Miles away from him, from Fairlake, from her friends. Her parents had chosen foster care for her before they left. According to Attorney McKinnons, they were family friends. People whom she had never met but her parents had. They sounded horrible and Dylan wasn't sure what would happen to Camilla. Camilla touched her forehead to Dylan's and softly whispered.
"I am going with them right now, Dylan. But you'll have to promise me something." Dylan nodded.
"Anything."
"Get me back Dylan. Do whatever you have to do, but please... get me back" more tears rolled down her blotchy face. He took her hand and placed the ring in her palm.
"I will. I promise. The ring is a guarantee" he gently kissed her forehead. Mrs. Wilson strode over to them and grabbed Camilla's hand and proceeded to drag her away. Camilla showed him the ring and mouthed "Promise"

Once Dylan saw Camilla go through the terminal, he couldn't stop himself. He ran to his blue Mustang and kicked the car door in anger. He got in, slammed the door, and began crying as hard as he could. Endless tears were streaming down his face as he kept hearing her words "Do whatever you have to do, but please get me back" He made up his mind on what to do and started the engine. He wiped the back of his hands across his face and whispered "I promise"
He drove to Attorney McKinnons office first. The attorney looked up at Dylan.
"Have you been crying, my boy? I assure you Camilla's in good hands. The Wilsons are very good friends of the family."
"I want to get her back Attorney McKinnons. I don't care whether the family is good or not. Give me something, anything that will get her back" Dylan pleaded.
"Dylan. There is nothing I can do. Her parents have already signed the papers. If you want to do anything, I suggest you go visit the place where her parents got her foster parents. Fairlake foster care and adoption agency." Dylan wasted no time and ran out.
He got there in twenty minutes and darted inside. There were many workers dressed in blue and white striped frocks. Dylan walked up to the receptionist and asked her who he could talk to for matters of foster care. Noticing his urgency, she directed him towards the head of foster care, Shayla Fernandez.
He knocked twice before hearing a soft 'come in'. She couldn't have been much older than thirty. She had dirty blonde hair reaching her shoulders and pale blue eyes. She flicked a blonde strand behind her ear and straightened her black frames, reminding him inexplicably of Camilla. Camilla always did that when she was nervous or happy.
"How may I help you, sir?"
"This morning, one of the people signed up for emergency foster care, left for the foster family. I want to know more about the family." She sighed and removed the glasses from her face.
"We are not allowed to give classified information out... but... sir, as you may know... everything must come with... a payment."
Dylan took out his wallet and slapped some bills on the table.
"Very well sir. What is the name of the child?"
"Camilla Anderson."
"Ah yes. I heard about her parents. Terrible really."
She wore her glasses again and started thumbing through a file bearing Camilla's name on the front.
"Ma'am, I do not need to know the history. I just need to know more about the Wilsons."
"The Wilsons? Are you sure you've got the right girl? Camilla's foster parents are not Wilsons. They are, in fact, called the Hawthornes"
