Daniel grew up in a house full of druggies. She would watch as her brother snorting cocaine with his "friends." She would find her mother and father, who constantly fought, smoking weed in their bedroom, and her sister was the only one who was kind to her.
Her family neglected her most of the time so her sixteen year old sister, Molly, would have to feed her and help her with school work. She was the main bread winner in the family because their father, John, couldn't keep a job and their mother, Sarah, was too lazy to find work. Their brother, Rick, did have a job but he spent all of his money on drugs.
Daniel, at the age of fourteen, relied on Molly and she felt like she was the only one who cared.
But one night, Molly didn't come home. Daniel stayed up all night waiting for her, and of course, her family couldn't care less. The next day, Daniel decided to call the police out of fear for the safety of her sister.
The investigation went on for weeks until one morning, a hiker who was aware of Molly's disappearance, found a girls body laying lifeless and bloodied on the rocks.
Daniel was told the news and from that day on, she knew if she loved someone, she would hold them close and would never let go. She wouldn't take the time she had with them for granted. She would cherish every moment with them, no matter what.
When Daniel turned fifteen she started doing drugs herself. She had gotten a job at the local grocery store and used half of the money she got on drugs. The other half was for food. She started off small by taking weed like her parents who were constantly stoned. Then by the age of seventeen, she was dependent on drugs. Daniel couldn't go a day without heroin or pot. She was worse then the rest of her family.
She was a pretty girl with long black hair and she had a nice figure but she would've been even prettier if she didn't have bags under her eyes and rough skin. Daniel didn't care about her appearance though, all she cared about was getting high.
At the age of twenty Daniel dropped out of community college and left town with her druggy boyfriend Micheal. He was handsome too, but the drugs did damage to his appearance as well. He would supply her with everything and she would stock the fridge and pantry. They lived in a small rundown house in a "bad" neighborhood.
Deep down, she knew she had to change her habits but she knew she wasn't strong enough. She needed treatment and therapy but she couldn't afford it. Micheal knew this too and they would talk about it now and then, but they would always wind up taking hits of weed.
Daniel and Michael were sexually active but they never thought to use protection. They thought that since they did so many drugs that there was no way of her getting pregnant. But they were wrong.
One morning Daniel awoke to the feeling of vomit rising up her throat. She ran to the bathroom, waking up Micheal in the process, and made it just in time. She washed herself and came out of the bathroom to see Micheal waiting for her on the couch in their small living room.
"You alright babe?" Micheal asked
"Yeah I'll be alright. I just felt sick. Probably cause of the old beer last night." Daniel laughed it off and pushed it to the back of her mind. But, when this cycle continues every morning, she knew something was wrong.
One night, Daniel walked over to the drug store not too far from their house and grabbed a pregnancy test. She didn't know what the results would be, but she prepared herself for the worst.
Later that night, she waited on the bathroom floor in silence. Micheal sat beside her and was rubbing her back soothingly. They might be addicts, but that didn't mean they weren't kind people.
Daniel was almost asleep when she heard Micheal take a sharp breath and nudged her shoulder. She slowly opened her eyes and nearly dropped the test. It was positive.
