I took my bathe within five minutes, had my breakfast and off I went for my first class. After school I returned home with my best friend, Maryam. Maryam and I became friends from primary school and she's well known to my family.
We greeted my mum and went straight to my room to observe the zuhr and asr salat we missed because of class. After that we ate lunch and I escorted Maryam home, the she lives just down the road.
When it was time for dinner the whole family assembled on the dinning table and we had a delicious meal of jollof rice and fried chicken with plantain.
Fatimah, my dad called me after the meal to meet him in my parents room. I became anxious about what he wanted to discuss. I entered and my mum told me to sit. My dad began " remember my friend Alh. Musa?" Yes dad. " he came to ask for your hand in marriage to his first son Faruk and I accepted, your engagement will take place after your final exams next month and the nikah will follow a week later".
I was dumbfounded. I don't know how I got to my room, I just found myself crying on my bed. I always thought of having a love marriage not an arranged marriage.
