◆ Donna ◆
The day goes by slowly and once afternoon approaches I hear a loud bonking on my door.
All day I've been feeling giddy and butterflies are fluttering around in my stomach. Normally I hate the part of my job to rise at 6am to accept the fresh deliveries for Bellissima, but since I've barely slept tonight I didn't mind at all.
I put my glass of wine down on the table and open the door. Lily is hoisting a large backpack from the ground and gives me a wide smile.
''Let's get started!'' Confused I step aside to let her in and close the door behind me.
''Lily I thought you were joking about a make-over.'' I fold my arms over my bosom and watch as Lily empties her backpack on my dining table.
''Of course not.'' Lily glances at my half drunken wine glass and rises her eyebrow in my direction.
''I only poured myself one glass to soothe the nerves.'' I defend myself but Lily lifts an empty wine bottle and turns around to face me.
''So that's why you've drunk a whole bottle?'' Crap. Lily enjoys a good amount of alcohol like any other person but she only drinks two days in a week. Whilst I find myself pouring a glass almost every evening after work maybe that's also one of the reasons why I can't seem to loose any weight.
Focussing back on her task at hand Lily grabs my arm and drags me to my bedroom. Clothes are scattered on the floor and on my bed, neatly in the middle lies the set of clothes I'm planning to wear to my dinner date with Jack.
It's an off-shoulder green swing dress made of velvet, beside it rests a black clutch. After a huge debate with myself I decided to finally unwrap the only pair of expensive shoes I own. Lily takes it all in with glee and when her eyes rest on my shoes she gapes.
''You never told me you own Louboutins.'' Lily gives me and envious stare and I shrug my shoulders. I've bought these black Louboutins years ago with my first ever pay-check and I can count on one hand how many times I've worn them.
''I actually came here to help you pick an outfit but this is really beautiful Donna.'' Lily appreciates my shoes and the fabric of my dress a little bit longer while I awkwardly stand in the doorway. After she's done drooling she whips around to face me and drags me back into my living room.
''Now, as for a hairdo I was thinking classy 50's victory rolls and a slight wave.'' Lily begins to grab curlers and numerous bobby-pins. She pushes me down in one of the chairs and starts combing my hair.
''Lily you know I can do my own victory rolls right?''
Most of my wardrobe is filled with 40's, 50's and even 60's clothing. I've always loved vintage and retro, even as a little girl. When I turned seventeen my father gifted me a Wurlitzer jukebox which is now part of my kitchen decoration. So for Lily to do my hair in victory rolls is something I could've easily done myself. But the harsh pulling on my hair makes it clear to me that there's no room for debate.
After twenty minutes of hair pulling and inhaling hairspray my hair was finally finished. Lily pulled out her phone to show me some pictures on Pinterest that she'd saved for my make-up. Every model wore heavy make-up and too much rouge, frowning at Lily when she puts some foundation on a sponge thingy I shake my head.
''You know I don't like too much make-up.'' The only make-up I wear is eyeliner, lipstick, mascara, blush and when I feel up to it a neutral eyeshadow. After a heavy discussion Lily finally gives in to give me just that. Another twenty minutes go by and I've only got fifteen minutes left before Jack's here to pick me up.
