CHAPTER 1: Dead or Alive?
"Ow Son of a monkey" Getting up off the sidewalk pavement ignoring the blood running down my legs from my knee barely missing the bottom of my skirt. I continue to run down the street not looking forward to being scolded for being late again. My name is Maria but i go by Mar, i am your average 16 year old, and when i say average i mean it. Periods, Depression, Anxiety, and loads of mistakes wanna find someone to star in a teenage film? Well don't look at me because I'm as average as they get.
Finally making it to Prufrock Coffee, a cute little cafe on the other side of Leather Ln in Holborn London. Conveniently right across the street from the bookstore and cafe I work at. Yes I know it seems pointless to order a drink at a cafe right across the street when you work at one. But if you worked in the same place as I do you kind of get tired of seeing the place all of the time. Walking inside the cafe I stand off to the side to check over the menu deciding to order something new today. Scanning the menu I finally settled on Earl Grey Vanilla Bubble Tea. I walked up to the counter with one man and one girl working behind the counter, smoothing out the skirt on my maids uniform. Finally reaching the counter behind a mother and her child I notice that the male is taking orders while the girl prepares them. I reached into my purse for my little bit of cash. Zipping up my purse with cash in hand, I manage to look up in time to see the little boy pulling on the edge of a cloth being used to display some glass cups. I jump forward and manage to grab the cups before they crash on the little boy. Successfully managing to fall onto my stomach with the cups in hand.
Looking up from my new found spot on the floor I notice the mom holding the little boy. While the female worker ran around the counter to help me up. Everyone was staring at me. Now remember as a shy teenager with anxiety I stupidly try to jump up and avoid the stares, managing to bump into a table knocking down a pile of plates and cups from the customers prior. Looking up at everyone I notice everyone has now decided to turn and look at the awkward teen who has successfully managed to destroy half of a cafe in less than ten minutes "There's now way I am managing to get to work on time today...".
Setting the glasses I caught earlier on the counter I look up at the girl working looking at her nametag. "Elle...Is it ok if i use the broom?.." nodding her head in response she disappears into a room back by the restrooms. Returning a few minutes later with a broom and dustpan, taking them from her I nod my thanks and start to clean up the glass. Seeing a pair of shoes walk up next to me I look up seeing a man I didn't see before with a small plastic trash bin. He sets it onto the floor by me away from the glass. "Go ahead and put the glass in that and one of my employees will take it out" Looking up at the man I slowly nod my head before replying "thanks". He nods before walking off.
Finally finishing up with the glass I hand the trash bin along with broom and dustpan to Elle before dusting off my skirt. Elle returns motioning for me to follow her, deciding to follow as she takes me back into a room with a sticker saying management across the door. Walking into the room behind Elle I looked up to notice the man who had the trash bin earlier. Looking up from his computer screen he chuckles while shaking his head at me. Feeling like a child getting scolded for taking one more extra cookie than they were permitted I put my head down looking at my black converse noticing the dirt on the toes. "While i thank you for saving those glasses that little boy would have broken, i feel letting them fall would have been better than the outcome that came from saving those glasses". Finally looking back up I nod my head before replying "I know, I apologize I really did not mean to, I can pay you for the dishes that i broke, or i can volunteer for work until i pay it off." Nodding his head in agreement he looks at me while replying "the volunteering idea sounds great to me, because while i do agree you should pay for all the dishes you broke, I don't agree with taking money from people your age." nodding my head i take out a notepad and pen from my skirt pocket preceding to write down my name and number before handing it to the man. Nodding his head and motioning to the door in dismissal, I proceed to take my leave walking back to the front of the little cafe.
Finally managing to order my spring I moved off to the side waiting for my name to be called. Looking up I notice a man who appeared a few years older than me seemingly relaxing against the wall standing directly across the room from me gazing at me un blinking. Beginning to feel awkward, I wave and he smirks before he blinks and begins to move, moving back behind the counter standing next to the man who took my order. Looking back down at my phone I proceed to text my manager explaining what happened and that I will be in soon to start my shift as well as pick up two extra hours for the time I missed. Receiving a thumbs up in response I finally hear my name being called. Putting my phone away I walk up to the counter and grab my drink. Turning to walk out I made it halfway across the room before looking down at my drink noticing the message on it. 'You're Beautiful' Turning back around I lock eyes with the man from the wall noticing his eyes have a strange red tint seeming to glow underneath the soft light in the cafe. Making me feel they hold the secrets to my soul shivering as they stand out against his pitch black hair making me curious how they would feel between my inter digital folds, he smiles and shakes his head pointing to the other male behind the counter. Turning my gaze to him he waves and smiles, waving my hand in return and continues out the cafe into work.
A/N: So this is my first story...at least that i am sharing and letting people read, so far i have already written all of chapter one, and some of chapter two. My chapters will be more than one page long so this might not be a fast story, i will also take any criticism anyone has as long as you guys are not rude about it. As i am still working on this book, i will also take in any ideas people have and would like me to try and add into my book. I have many pages already written so starting today i will post a page a day until i am caught up with my writing, unless something comes up. Thank you to anyone who has decided to read my book.
