Chapter 4

            Fang and Iggy collapsed on the front yard, max still out cold. Fang felt for a pulse, and max still had one, but it was weak. The front door banged open, and fang looked up to see angel and the gasman running out to help. The four brought max into the house and put max on the couch in the living room. The younger kids gathered around, accompanied with nudge, carrying the med kit. Fang stepped aside, tapping Iggy's hand twice as nudge put the med kit on the table. nudge led Iggy to the med kit, since he's the best they could get to a doctor.

            "I'll have to see what the problem is..." iggy said, and he got to work.

2 hours later

            Fang was pacing in the kitchen, aware that everyone was watching him, since he was flock leader for the time being, when Iggy and nudge came in. fang looked into their eyes, seeing sadness in them. Oh, god. Fang thought. nudge came up to fang, looked at him, and then started crying and hugging him. The flock gathered around, and it turned into a big weep fest. nudge was apologizing over and over, and the flock was hugging and crying. Wait, max isn't dead. She can't die yet. Max can't die. If she does, I will find her in heaven and I will slap her silly. Fang thought, tears starting to fall down his face. Unusual for even him.

            "Fang?" angel asked. Fang looked at her. "Is max... d...d..." angel couldn't speak.

            Did max die? Fang heard angel's voice in his head. He nodded. This was very unfortunate, especially since angel, the one max cared for since she was two, was crying the most.

            "Fang?" fang looked around, but everyone was crying.

            "Fang. Faaaaaang." fang looked around. Still no one was paying attention to him. Fang felt someone shaking his shoulder. Fang snapped awake. I was dreaming? Holy crap. That felt so real. Fang thought as he woke up. nudge was the one shaking his shoulder. She was beaming.

            "Fang, you're awake." She sounded like he was the one who suddenly went unconscious in the sky. When he thought of that, fang jolted up.

            "How's max?" fang asked, practically twitching.

            "Max is fine," iggy started. Fang sighed, relieved. "She got bitten by a poisonous snake on her leg, and the poison spread until she went unconscious. I was able to get most of the poison out, but she'll have to stay in bed for a couple days to fully recover before she goes charging off." iggy smiled at the last four words. Fang smiled as well.

            "Can I see her?" fang asked.

            "Yes, but she's still half conscious. Just go easy on her. She probably feels sore." Fang thanked nudge and went up to max's room, where she was laying in bed, half awake. Fang walked in and sat by max's bed.

            "Hey. How you felling?" fang asked. Max tried to smile, but it kinda failed.

            "Like crap. Like I got ran over by a flaming tank." Max said. Fang smiled his famous half smile that he knew brightened max's day.

            "ig said you got bitten in the leg by a poisonous snake."

            "Sadly."

            "Why didn't you tell me something was wrong?!"

            "I thought I could make it to the house."

            "You always act so strong, don't you?"

            "Har har. I can still slap you."

            "Love to see you try. My fierce little kitten." Fang laughed, jumping back, as max swung for him with one of her arms. Unfortunately, she still had her undamaged leg, and she got him good in the you-know-where. Fang silently mumbled some extra colorful words while trying not to scream like a girl.

            "Screw you." Max said.

            "I'll leave you be." Fang said, trying not to make his voice go high pitched, and he left, wincing at each step. I'm going to get max back. Revenge is coming. Of course, with his karma, the so called 'revenge' will be pointing at yours featherly. Like it always does.
