A L Y S E

They had the week off; the midterms had just ended. Perfect time to get to bottom of why, for the past fortnight, people would snigger at her in the hallways; and the details of a call on that ruinous night which she couldn't recall placing.

Lana           Nov 2, 19

01:05 AM, duration: 56 seconds

Her recollection of that night was blurred. She'd called Lana - haze - she saw her getting into the driver's seat - haze - she remembered the soft pitter-patter - "Its all your fault."

Was it though?

She vaguely recalled Lana saying to her next day, bluntly: "You had insisted on driving your friends home, inebriated. Know this: you hit Alex on the way home; though I won't tell anyone."

Alyse had checked in with her friends from that night. They said they had stayed over at the party house; they never made it home that night.

Hacking into the street records archives, she browsed through the footage of their route from the party to home, around the time of the call. She saw Alex crossing the intersection and getting hit by an all-too-familiar vehicle. With her heart in her mouth, she saw Lana get out of the driver seat.

Pulse racing, she quickly closed the archives, knowing now why the police hadn't gotten any leads. Seeing the evidence, she'd have been the prime suspect. But her father was the Chief. He must have erased the police records - but it exists somewhere, it always does.

She smirked. The things you'd do for your blood.

Next, she opened the photo sharing website which had gained a new wave of popularity recently- she immediately knew why. There were exposing pictures of her, some in compromising positions. Only two certain people had been with her all those times from the photos. She recalled Nat saying distinctly- "My phone got hacked!"

Alyse traced the mail of the account to an address she knew. Apparently, Natalia had hacked herself. Chuckling to herself, she knew Nat was after her. And her being was synonymous to her reputation.

In conclusion, thought Alyse, a) Lana planted a false memory in my mind to save her own neck and, b) Natalia is out to sabotage me.

What lovely friends she had.

The ball was in her court; and they should've known better than to pass it to an APChem student. Something Nick had said in that class stirred in her memory.

Well, thought she, dinner at the lakehouse would be a fun affair.
