"Flight 34 is now ready for boarding. Please make your way to the loading platform." The intercom announced.
I got up from my rock hard seat, swung my black backpack over my shoulder, and made my way to the platform. Something just isn't comforting about flying in an air plane. Maybe it's the small food portions or the cramped space you sit in for 5 hours. I have, and never will, like flying.
I gave the flight attendant my ticket; she rips the stub off and hands me back the larger portion. "Have a nice flight." She says a little too happily.
While walking down the loading tunnel my stomach flips, as it usually does before I fly. I ignore the feeling and push on. I locate my seat and make myself comfortable. Half an hour later, I'm looking out the window at the now tiny airport as the plane heads west.
My grandparents thought it would be a great idea if I came out to visit them for a month in Alaska. They last came for my sixteenth birthday about three years ago, too busy with their new business to visit again. If you weren't too lazy and did the math, that would make me 19 years of age. With my birthday in 2 days, I'll be turning the big 2-0.
Soon, the sign notifying the passengers that you may use electronic devices, showed it was a go. I fished my iPhone out out of my backpack, put in headphones, and pressed shuffle. I reluctantly fell asleep to Re: Why I Killed My Girlfriend by That's Outrageous!. I dreamed of darkness and nothingness.
I awoke to Glide Boy by backpackparty and panicking. People weren't screaming but you could cut the tension with a knife. The intercom was filled with a flight attendant babbling safety procedures and constantly telling everyone to remain calm. I removed my headphones to hear better. "...and please stay clam! If this were any worse the air masks would have dropped so we're completely fine! Everyone—" A voice of a man, I'm guessing the pilot, interrupted the feminine voice. "I have news on the current situation." He pauses, as if to tell us as painless as possible. The cabin is dead silent as we wait for the grim news. "A terrorist has hijacked another plane and is going to try to crash our planes together." Shrieking is the only sound my ears are able to hear next.
My mind is racing, trying to tell if this is a dream or reality. People are crying, screaming, wailing, yelling, and silent. I am one of the only silent people; gathering their thoughts for their last moments. 'I knew I didn't like planes.' Was my only thought in the air before the impact.
The noise was loud, similar to what a train collision would probably sound like. Blood, shards of glass and metal, and blue were the last things I remember seeing before my world spin then, go dark.

I expected myself to be dead. But maybe some larger being is giving me a helping hand because my eyes open. The area is gruesome; littered with bodies, blood, and metal. Pain hits my legs like a freight train and I can't help myself from screaming. I study what appears to be the seats I was sitting moments ago, now sitting on me. I attempt to yell for help but all my voice produces is a meager whisper.
"Help." The wind carries it away, toward no ears alive to hear it. I attempt it again. This time, my voice helps me. "Help." I say more confidently. A burning, searing pain from my legs sends my brain a message; I scream.
"Is someone alive over here?" A manly but accented voice calls out.
My brain rushes with hope. "H-here! I'm here! Hel-" I grind my teeth; trying not to scream. My savior rushes over and spots why I'm not walking around. He pushes and shoves but to no avail does it move.
"Hang on, I'm going to get someone to help me move this off of you. Ok? I'll be right back!" He scurries off into the wreckage.
Ahead of me, is death. Beside me, death. Should I look up? Do I dare? I slowly lift my head to find what I was not hoping for. A few unmoving bodies littered the tall pine trees. Blood and metal and luggage decorate the trees like Christmas. I didn't mind blood when I was younger and quite liked gutting fish and skinning deer with my father but, with this amount of it I felt woozy. Do not faint! Damn it! That man is going to get help and if you faint they might think you might have died. Got it? A crazy little voice in the back of my head explained. Maybe I should meditate? That might help. I inhaled a deep breath and closed my eyes. I would usually cross my legs but they're a little tied up right now so, we'll skip that part. I exhale out of my mouth. I imagine nothingness. Like a blank canvas inside of my head.
