Victim's perspectiveThe screeching sound of their knife against the walls was deafening. The booming of their footsteps above me made my heart stop. The sound of every passing car, every creak in the wooden steps of my living room sent new shivers up my spine.
I knew that I had to run but my broken ankle was slowing me down. Sound asleep in my bed, I had felt a shadow looming over me. Opening my eyes, I was paralyzed with fear, unable to make even a squeak in self defence, as they made a sound somewhere between a hiss and chuckle seeing me. Fresh goosebumps erupted on my skin as they pulled down the covers, baring me.
Sucking in a breath I had hurled my bedside lamp on their head, temporarily disorienting them... I hoped. As I jumped out of bed, opened the door and then felt myself---flying?
It was only when I landed, head first, that I knew they had pushed me down the stairs. My ankle was bent at an odd angle and I was terrified to inspect the damage, so I crawled underneath the dinning table. All the while hoping that the darkness provided me a safe haven.
My breathing ragged, trembling, I willed myself to take a step forward and pain shot up my ankle. And then an ear-splitting voice as cold as ice but as smooth as steel rang.
"Come out then! Enough of this! I came all this way to play."
My blood froze in my veins. No, I can't die, I thought. This can't be it!
I practically face palmed myself as I hadn't even grabed a weapon in my frenzy and just like every other horror movie I had watched, here I was waiting, defenceless, huddled and quivering at the mercy of my predator.
Frantically looking around I found the backyard door open. My route to escape wasn't onerous and only a few feet away. "I can make it", a shaky voice unlike mine, escaped my bleeding lips. It was silent once more as I tip toed towards it. My breath lodged in my throat and a thousand doubts and worries all muddled in my head.
"Just a little further", I whispered to myself and as I inched closer I let myself smile.
Then there was a stabbing pain in my gut. And then again. And again.
My legs gave away underneath me as I fell to the floor and the irony? I fell on my back so that I could see death itself in its face. Death had stony black eyes. Death had an evil sneer on their face, illuminated by the moonlight pouring in from the windows. They were like a wolf looking down on its prey.. ready to kill.
"Please why are you doing this...?", I croaked with all the strength I could muster.
But I felt myself dying as I heard Death say, "Don't worry no one's going to miss you. You did you part perfectly".
And then I let death take me.
And darkness engulfed me.
