PRESENT DAY

10:12 AM

Alexis's eyes follow Scott as he walks into the room. He couldn't help but feel concerned for her after watching her breakdown in front of that girl. Maddison was it?

Although unable to hear them, he had gauged the severity of the conversation from her dejected expression. She would wring her hands as she heaved heavy breaths. He watched closely as she tried to act brave, barely keeping it together.

A few moments passed and then Scott saw it all crumble the second her body gave an abrupt shudder and a stream of tears trailed down her pale, bruised face, skirting at the edges of her rosy lips.

At that moment, he surprised himself by suddenly getting up, his body angled to reach her. A swift urge to protect her, wrap her in his arms, firm against him and fight off anything that was making her sad, surged through his being.

Then took a tense breath trying to calm his nerves and sat back down. He ran a palm along his thighs reminding himself that this was someone he barely knew.

He had made a promise to himself, before moving to this town, never to trust people as easily as he once did. Alexis was not going to be the reason he would shy away from it so soon.

"You're awfully calm for someone who's being questioned regarding a murder investigation", Sheriff Heller exclaims as Scott takes a seat across him.

"That's because I have nothing to be worried about. I didn't do anything to that girl... I barely knew her."

The Sheriff sits dow, his hands folded neatly on the table before him, "You just moved here recently am I correct? A few days ago... to be specific."

"Yeah."

"And I have also come to know that you live alone. What about your family?", he continues.

"What about it? I'm allowed to live alone", Scott responds.

"Oh of course! But what I find most intriguing is why move here... to this small, humble town, when you have a fortune back home in Chicago?"

"What? I-", for the first time he feels distressed.

"Yes! Oh and you wanna know what else I found out?", Heller doesn't even pause enough for Scott to reply to this question.

He savours the next sentence as he speaks, "Your real name isn't Scott Ryland. Rather its Scott Abrams. You're the son of the businessman Daniel Abrams, the sole owner of one of America's larget pharmaceutical industries. Your father practically owns half of Chicago and the half he doesn't own, he controls. That's where you lived right?"

"So my question Mr. Abrams, is why move here? Right before this unfortunate incident? You say you didn't even know the victim and yet you were invited to her party. And according to several witnesses, Jenna invited you personally. And then there's the mystery with changing your name. Tell me Scott? What are you running from?", the Sheriff knew he'd stumped the boy as his cool demeanour fractured before his eyes.

"Ryland is my mother's maiden name! I don't have to ask your permission before changing it. And yeah I live alone because my father couldn't care less about me. This house was in my inheritance. And I have every right to live where the hell I want! I don't see how it has ANYTHING to do with the murder!", Scott grinds his teeth, barely controlling his hatred for this man.

"Easy there boy!", Heller chuckles.

"Why was Jenna so interested in you then?"

"How am I supposed to know? And you know what? I'm aware of my rights, since you have nothing plausible to hold me here, I'm walking out. I'm sick of this!"
