Chapter 4: Fair is Fair

You all laugh once again as you clean the fake blood off. Mark rubs his neck and says "Jeez, my throat hurts now." laughing a bit. You ask "Will you be able to do the pre-show tomorrow?" a hint of concern in your voice. "Yeah, it's not that bad." Stating on the next show, you'll did a pre-show for the people who bought special tickets. Mark would simply sing a song and everyone would chat a little with the audience. You were a small bit concerned, because on your channel you made a video announcing the tour, and you had a whole three minute spiel about how great the pre-show was. Sean says "Hey, I heard there was a fair here this week, anybody wanna check that out?" You sit up and say "Sure, I don't see why not." followed by Ethan saying "Sounds fun." and Mark adding "I dunno, there might be some tall rides there." as he elbows you. You growl and say "I may be significantly less muscular than you, but I am still very capable of punching you." as you cross your arms. He laughs and says "I'm kidding! A fair does sound fun though." Sean, now sitting up, says "We could go after we check into the hotel." the rest of you nod in agreement. "sounds good!" Ethan says as he gathers his things up. You do the same and Sean and Mark try to figure out how to get to the hotel. A few minutes later everything's figured out and the four of you are on your way. Eventually, you find your way and check in. "Alright, tonight Ethan and I are sharing a room and Sean and (Y/n) are sharing." you nod and say "Meet you two in a minute." as you unlock the door and walk in. You walk to the closest bed and collapse. Sean laughs a little as he sets his suitcase down. You think about Mark and Ethan teasing you about being afraid of heights and get an idea. "Sean?" you say to your new roommate. He hums in response. "You wanna prove to Mark and Ethan that a fear of heights isn't stupid and/or prove to them it isn't as bad as they think it is for us?" He closes his bag and turns to you slowly. "Do I even need to say of course?" You smile and say "Cool." as you stare at the ceiling. He laughs and says "How do we do that?" as he goes back to sorting things out. "hm... well if the fair has a ferris wheel we could each get on with one of them and rock the cart, and we could get on the tallest rides as proof that we aren't as scared as we seem." he laughs nervously and says "Sounds... like a plan." You it up and say "That is, if we aren't as scared as we seem." laughing nervously with him. He closes his bag and sets it to the side "We should be fine, just as long as we don't do a free fall ride. I fucking hate those." you sigh and say "Me too." but your conversation is cut short by a knock at your door. Ethan's voice can be heard from the other side. "Are you two coming or what?" you stand up and say "Ready?" looking at him. He nods and says "Let's go prove that we aren't as scared as we look... if that's the case." you laugh and say "Yeah!" before walking out. Mark and Ethan are waiting outside for you two and you say "To the fair!" pointing dramatically. The four of you once again choose to walk to the fair. You happily chat with each other, no one falling down this time. The sun has already began to set as you arrive. The lights for the rides flash many different colors and music blairs from all around you. You happily bounce as you try to decide what to ride first. You spot a zero gravity ride and grab Mark's shoulder as you point at it, your eyes lit up like a little kid. He laughs and says "(Y/n) wants to ride Zero Gravity." You look to the others with pleading looks and bounce in your spot again. "Sure, sounds fun" Ethan says while Sean shrugs and says "I don't see why not." You throw your arms up in victory as you cheer. Then you take off down the pathway and they all walk calmly after you. "Jeez, she's like a kid at a candy store." Sean says as he watches you run. You wait for them to catch up to you before getting in the surprisingly short line. You giggle as the ride comes to a stop and the group before you get off. They let the four of you on and you fasten yourselves to the wall/seat things. Ethan sits on one side of you and Sean sits on the other, with Mark to his left. You glance at them and jump a tiny bit when the ride jerks and starts spinning. As it increases speed you giggle a little, only laughing harder when the ride goes faster. Your laughter makes Sean and Ethan laugh, and soon all four of you are laughing as the ride spins you so fast you can barely move. Before you know it, the ride is slowing to a stop and you can move again. All of you are a little dizzy and you stumble a bit like you're drunk. After attempting to stand up straight, your knees give and you fall over, barely catching yourself on both the wall and Ethan. Mostly Ethan. Once you all get your bearings and you can walk in a straight line again, you start to decide on the next ride. Ethan smirks and says "What about the ferris wheel?" You and Sean make eye contact and say "Alright" in unison. You try not to smile as Mark and Ethan both look a tiny bit confused. You and Sean start to walk towards the wheel and Mark and Ethan follow. Sean winks at you and you grin at him. Once in line, you all wait for an empty cart to open up. Sean climbs in and you say "Mark, why don't you ride with Sean?" only making him more confused. "O...Okay" he says as he climbs in. The next cart is empty as well, and you and Ethan climb on together. Sean glances back at you and you give him a thumbs up. It was too late to get off, so there was no point in being discrete. Ethan sits in silence, still trying to figure out what you were planning. You read the sign on Sean and Mark's seat. "Please do not rock the carts..." and there is a moment of silence. You say suddenly "Oh my shoe is untied!" and lean forward with your arms out. The cart rocks a good bit and Ethan yelps in fear. You suppress the urge to scream, also having startled yourself. You sigh and suddenly Sean's cart rocks as well. You can hear Mark say something along the lines of "Sean what the fuck are you doing?!" He laughs and Ethan pieces together what's going on. He starts rocking the cart and you grab him by the shirt. "I will murder you!" you say without thinking. He laughs and says "What? My shoe was untied too!" You make eye contact with him and say "You..." before growling and rocking the cart again. He laughs and says "That won't work anymore!" before there's a pop. You both freeze. Pure fear courses through you whole body as the color drains from your face. Neither of you move for the rest of the ride. Once you get off, Sean and Mark are laughing but you and Ethan are both still pale. "What happened?" Mark asks, still laughing a bit. "We rocked the cart too much... and something popped." you say slowly. Sean looks worried and asks "Are you two okay?" You both nod and Ethan says "Let's... do something closer to the ground this time." You nod in agreement, not even realizing you had suceeded in your first mission. Mark and Sean look around as the color returns to your face. "What about that one?" Mark asks as he points to a large spinning ride. You all agree to go on it and get in line. The line for this one was a bit longer, so you had to wait about two rides before you could get on. You and Ethan are already calm again by the time you climb in. Sean and Ethan are riding together, and you and Mark are together. The ride operator told you as you climbed on "Smaller person on the inside." and you sat on the inside. As the ride started up you thought aloud "I wonder why I had to be on the inside." Mark shrugs and says "Probably something to do with centrifugal force." you nod as the ride speeds up. As it gets faster and faster it becomes apparent that Mark was right. As the ride spins in circles you are slowly pushed into him and he's pushed into the side of the seat. Once the ride slows down and you can pull yourself off of him, you apologize to Mark for crushing him. He laughs and says "Don't act like you broke my bones or something!" You laugh and climb off after unbuckling your seatbelt. You were a bit smaller than him after all. You meet up with Sean and Ethan at the exit where Sean is holding his arm. "Are you okay?" you ask. He laughs and says "Yeah, my arm was just shoved into the side of the cart for 2-3 minutes." Mark says "Yeah, same here." You look around and say "Sean, you haven't picked a ride yet, what do you wanna do?" he looks around for a moment, then says "What about that one?" as he points to a large ride. (Seen above) "The Moby Dick?" Mark says. (Gimme a break. It's my favorite ride from the local fair and I couldn't not include it!!!) You and Ethan glance at each other and you say "Looks fun, why not?" You all agree once more and walk to the ride, adorning large flashing multi color lights around the words, highlighting the name. This line was pretty long too, so you had to wait for about three rides before you could get on. As you climbed on, you sat down in the seats and the holsters lowered with a hiss. The operator walked around and pushed everyone's into place with a click, and you glanced at your friends. You were on the end with Sean next to you, then Mark, and Ethan following. The ride slowly came to life as it started to move. It suddenly swung you to the right and you all screamed. It swung you in circles and you happily laughed. People were watching, some even filming, from below as it stopped at the highest position. As you glanced around, you got a little scared and grabbed Sean's hand, which was becoming normal for you. He chuckled lightly and you let out a sharp scream as the ride swung left quickly. It went in a few more circles, but eventually slowed down and stopped. The machines hissed once more as the holsters went up slowly. You all stood up and laughed as you left the ride. "We are doing that again at some point tonight!!!" you said cheerfully as you wandered. Sean glanced over at you and asked "What do you think the tallest ride here is?" you shrugged and said "We could wander for a bit until we find it." he nods and says "Alright." One of the people who had been filming you on the ride ran up to you and Sean. "Jack! (YT/N)!" she said as he stopped. Mark and Ethan were chatting to the side when the saw her. Both of you turned to her as Mark and Ethan walked over. "I'm a huge fan of both of you!" she says happily! I was recording the ride when I noticed you two getting on.. Now that I think about it this sounds kinda creepy, but I recorded you two and Mark and Ethan! Uhm... If you're gonna make one, could I send this to you for a tour vlog?" You nervously laughed a little and said "I actually don't have much content for my vlog, so I could use that." Sean nodded and said "I think you've taken two videos...." you rolled your eyes and said "Shush!" before turning back to her and giving her your fan email. You couldn't help but feel a little odd that she recorded you without consent, but it's not like she was a stalker or something..... probably. None of us live anywhere near here, so it should be fine. You thought to yourself. You waved goodbye to her as she ran off into the fair. Mark says "Fan?" and you nod. You couldn't shake the feeling that there was something off about her, but it was most likely just because you were recorded without consent. At least she told you eventually instead of just posting it. That would be creepy as hell. There's a moment of silence between you all and you say "Should we take a little break from rides? Just walk around a scout out what they have here?" Sean says "Yeah, sounds good." Mark and Ethan both agree, but whisper to each other as you and Sean walk away. You spend a little while wandering around, looking at food stands, making jokes, a few fans asks for Mark's picture and then, you find it. The tallest ride in the fair.

A giant freefall.

You tap Sean on the shoulder and point at it. "I... think that's the tallest ride here." "Well then we're gonna have to go second tallest." Sean responds to you. You were about to agree until Mark says "Don't get scared, you're not even on it!" Even though Mark was only kidding and had no intention of pissing you off, he still did. You growl and, without a word, grab Sean's hand and storm towards it. Mark and Ethan take a second to comprehend what was going on, but as soon as they did they ran after you. "(Y/n)! Wait! You don't have to do something you don't want to!" Mark yells, half laughing. You say "No! You have been teasing me and Sean ever since we stepped foot on that stupid elevator! Not anymore!" Sean wasn't a big fan of this plan, but he had never seen you this genuinely mad, so he just let you. He was more scared of you than the height right now. "We didn't mean to make you mad!" Ethan yells as he follows you. You stood in line, still holding onto Sean. Sean says "uhm... I think they get the point, I don't think we have to do this." You say "No, if we don't then they'll just hold it over our heads! Because they're ASSHOLES!" you yell loud enough for them to hear. You had officially concerned all of the guys. The ride operator opens up the entrance and lets you and many others in. You sit down and cross your arms, making eye contact with Mark who was muttering something. You fasten the seatbelt and the holster slowly lowers itself onto you and Sean. Sean was already regretting this decision. The ride started to go up. You look at Sean, who looked scared, but he looked at you and laughed nervously. You looked back at Mark and Ethan, only to find that they were a lot farther away than before. You begin to panic. "Oh fuck!" you say when you realize how high you're going. You look back at Sean and say "Sean, I swear to god I am so sorry I don't know what I was thinking I just got mad and now we're getting higher and higher and I'm really sorry I don't know why I dragged you into thi-" he cuts you off by taking your had and saying "It's okay! We're gonna be okay!" you couldn't tell if he was talking to himself or you, but either way it helped. You took a deep breath as you stopped rising. "I hate myself so much!" you said as the ride stood still for a moment. Everything was still... You opened your eyes to peak out and see what was going on, and suddenly the ride rushed down. You let out a blood curdling scream as you rushed downwards. You squeezed Sean's hand as he somehow remained silent. The ride suddenly stopped. Your eyes were still shut but you stopped screaming. Suddenly, the holsters came off. You opened your eyes to see Mark and Ethan both looking concerned for you. you unbuckled your seat belt as quickly as possible, as did Sean, and ran to the exit. You fell to the ground and held your face in your hands. Sean walked to a garbage can and.... yeah. Mark and Ethan both just watch you two. Ethan walked over to you and asked "Are you okay?" You slowly stand up and turn to him. You were still breathing heavily. Sean walked over, assisted by Mark and you looked at all three of them. You simply walked over and hugged Sean, whispering "I'm so sorry" over and over. He pats you on the back and says "I think we should go back to the rooms." Mark and Ethan both agreed and once you let go of Sean you went back.
