Anti's P.O.V.
I knew I couldn't stay in the bathroom for too long since Dark would know something was up and come investigate. I grabbed my dirty clothes and trudged downstairs to see Dark sitting on the couch. I went to walk out the door to put my clothes in my car when I was stopped by Dark's voice.
"Hey. What are ya doing?"
I turned around and held up my clothes.
"I'm putting my clothes in my car. What does it look like I'm doing?"
He put his hands up in surrender and shrugged.
"Hey, no need to get defensive Anti, but you can put your clothes inside and wash them here you know. You can do that when we get back though because we have got to go right now or Mason is going to start wondering where the fuck we are."
He pushed himself off the couch and walked over to me, opening the front door for me and gesturing for me to walk out first. I walked out and headed to my car, placing my clothes in it and locking it again before turning toward Dark who was waiting for me at the garage door. Fuck... it made my heart ache when I looked at him now. It hurt to know that I have to hurt him in the end and it's probably going to destroy him... It's going to be so fucking hard to do it and I don't know if I will be able to follow through with what Wilford wants me to do...
I stood on the sidewalk and watched as he opened the garage door, showing his jet black car sitting snugly inside. I couldn't expect him to have anything less than a car that matched the owner. When he pulled the vehicle out I could see it was a Chevrolet Camaro (pictured at bottom for those who don't know what that looks like) that purred like a cat. Damn, it matched him completely and oof did I have a thing for sexy guys in sexy cars.
As he pulled up next to me he rolled down the passenger side window and smirked at me. I knew my thoughts were plastered on my face like a movie screen.
"Like my car do you?" He chuckled.
"Do I like it? Are you high? I fucking love it Dark! Holy shit, how the hell did you get them to let you drive it?" I said, shocked.
"Huh? Oh, this isn't a company car Anti. It's mine, I bought it with my own money doing what I do. Now, if you'd please get in the car that would be nice as it takes about a half hour to get to the building if traffic is good."
I opened the passenger seat and slid in the car, marveling at the beauty of the sleek vehicle he drove. I had always wanted a car like this, though all Wilford would let me drive was a beat up Chevy Malibu that was about as old as me. Thinking of Wilford made me remember what he told me to do so I took a deep breath as Dark pulled away from the curb. As I put on my seatbelt I mentally prepared myself for the reaction I would probably get from Dark.
"Uh, hey Dark? I want to ask you something." I said, looking out the passenger side window.
"Yeah? What's up?"
"Um, I was wondering about the photos you have around the house."
I heard his grip tighten on the steering wheel and I knew I crossed a line.
"What about them?"
"I was curious about who they are. Are they your family?"
"Yes. They are."
"Oh. Do you see them anymore? You know, because of your line of work?"
"They're dead."
My heart stopped and I felt my own anxiety spike and my blood run cold. I didn't expect that answer from him, but it made a lot of sense considering the reaction I got from him when I showed him the photo of the boy yesterday.
"I-I'm so sorry Dark... I had no idea..."
"It's fine. The boy you asked me about yesterday was my older brother. The woman you see was my mother. They died many years ago in a freak accident and I still have yet to find out who killed them. I've spent my free time trying to find out, piece clues together, but I always find nothing.... It's always a dead end... I was hoping that by doing my line of work, I'd have access to the technology I need to find the monsters responsible."
There was a hint of despair in his voice, laced with regret and something else I couldn't place. I felt so sorry for this man and I so desperately wanted to help him. He needed closure after so many years of not knowing the answer...
"Dark? I-I wanna help you."
He chuckled, making me look at him. He was staring at the road intently, glancing my way once I turned to face him. His knuckles were white from clutching the steering wheel so tight.
"Anti. If I have had no luck in so many years there is no way you can turn up anything I haven't. It's a fucking lost cause at this point. I doubt I'll ever find the answer if I haven't even come close after twenty fucking years of searching. It's not going to happen so just don't waste your time on something that has no answer Anti. There's no point and you'll just waste years of your life on something that'll only break you further the longer you focus on it and the more you see there's no light at the end of the tunnel."
"I-"
He cut me off, waving his hand at me.
"Just drop it Anti. There's no hope for me getting closure so get that out of your head. I've given up on trying so don't try to give me hope. I'm afraid that once something is truly lost, you can never get it back."
I sighed softly and went silent since it was no use trying to convince him otherwise. Once someone truly believes something, it's so hard to make them see the bright side unless you prove it to them. I doubted I'd get anything more out of him now, but I suppose that what I had would appease Wilford for now... I just hoped Wilford wouldn't make me do anything else...
