*Five years later*
"Mom! Mom! He's going to eat me!"
Millie smiled as Nate chased Millie's four year old daughter around on the beach. Millie herself was sat in the shadows, holding Nate's and his now wife Becca's newborn son Chris, named after Nate's dad.
Nate returned to Millie and took his son from her. Millie watched as her daughter ran around by herself, with the shovel that Millie's mom had gotten her for Christmas when she was three.
"Camille, don't go too close to the water. Stay where it's dry." Millie shouted to her daughter. Millie's mom always said that Camille reminded her a lot about Millie when she was a kid. Always breaking the rules.
Though she looked a lot like her father.
Millie sighted at the thought of Andrew. So many broken promises.
At the end of summer Andrew had gone back to New York with his family to finish his last year of high school. During the year, he had never come back, nor had he ever contacted Millie. Around Christmas, when Camille was born, he had been on Fiji with some friends. Millie had found that out from Alexa, since Andrew had invited her and Alex to join. Five years had passed and Millie had never seen Andrew since. The only one from the St James she had seen was Andrew's mother Camille, who had actually come to the hospital when Millie's daughter was born. Camille had kept in touch with Millie over the years and had told her that Andrew had met someone else; Kim, that he apparently was "head over heels" for. Camille had tried to make Andrew come here, but the only sign Millie got for Andrew actually being alive were the monthly checks his mother made him send to provide for Camille.
Alex and Alexa had been coming back every year though. They had spent a few years apart, due to college, but had always returned back to each other when going to the summer house. During last summer they had gotten engaged. Something that literally everyone had been waiting for since the two of them were born.
Alexa had kept in contact with Millie over the years. She had told her that Andrew entered the same college as Alex and that Andrew had been acting like his old self again. Gone was the sweet boy who had made promises to take Millie to see New York, which never had happened. Alexa had also told her that Andrew's dad, Tod St James had made him intern at the family business, so that he could one day run a part of it himself.
Millie had had a few nights of crying, but seeing her daughter grow up, helped. She better understood her own mother's struggles and she was forever thankful for her mother, Nate and Becca, who had all helped withe everything.
Millie watched Camille run towards her. She threw herself into Millie's arms and snugged into Millie's neck.
"I love you mom." she giggled.
"I love you too." Millie smiled.
It was going to be the two of them forever. And honestly, Millie was fine with that.
