My heart stopped. Not believing what I'm hearing, was I hearing things. Turning, Harry was standing there. Didn't he just drive off. Thinking I wasn't going to hear from him for almost a week, then boom he's standing in my old room; only a few seconds after hearing him drive off.
'Hi?" I asked, not meaning it to be a question.
"Hi." He smiled. "You left this." He held out my jacket.
Reaching for it, but he pulled it back, looking around my room. "Why's half your stuff packed?"
"Hum, this little think I was planing on going to call college." I said.
Does he not remember, choice not to remember, the most important thing to me. But them again his head is full of, himself, but probably mostly about of his world has been turned upside down in just a few days.
Once again he held out my jacket for me to take. When I went to take it he grabbed me with his free hand, turning my hand over he placed a piece of paper in it. He then dropped the jacket over my arm. Watching him he turns to go.
"Harry?" I wasn't sure what I was going to say or why I even said his name but I did.
"Thanks." I said, then I bit my lip, unsure what to say or do next.
"Anytime." He smiled, then walked out.
I headed over to my window and watched him walk down the path towards the car. For a moment his hand paused at the car door. Like he was thinking. But then the car door was opened for him and he got in.
Knowing any minute my mom would be up here waiting to know more. Quickly, I unfolded the paper Harry slipped in my hand. The first thing I noticed was a phone number. Next, he had drawn a little silly face right under the number. Smiling to myself, I slipped the number into my pocket. My door opened and my mother can in.
"So, who all knows?" I asked.
"I don't know what you mean?" She said, but I knew that smile all too well.
"Well?" I looked at her.
"I just told a few people..." I just looked at her. I knew now that more than half the town will know within the next hour.
"What can I do?" She asked, peeping in a box.
"Nothing, I'm almost done packing but...."
She just looked at me. Telling her I was getting married was hard. Now, again today I have to tell her something that's hard. Harder for me than her but still hard.
"I'm not going to campus, I switched all my classes online." My back was towards her. I place more books into a box.
"Why?"
I was closing up the box about to tap it shut.
"So, I can be with Harry." I wasn't a lie.
I have to be with Harry.
"It's only for the first semester." I said.
Which is true. She hasn't said anything. My whole life I've been told nothing comes before school, nothing, not one thing, not a single person.
"Oh." She said. "Was thing you or him..."
"Me!" my mind thinking like crazy trying to figure out what word or words to say next.
"This way we get to spend the first few months of was marriage together, I get to go to school and then I'll switch back to campus."
"I... I don't know what to say." She said I turned around so I could see her.
"School still is my number one, I just don't..."
"As long as this thing is what you want."
More like need I couldn't help but think.
"It is." Turning back around I knew she was watching me, I could feel it. Picking up a box, I place more books inside. Footsteps heading out the bedroom door I knew she was thinking busy thinking.
"I'm going to cook dinner, are you joining us?"
Looking back, I said "Sure."
