"Run!" Is all I was ever able to muster to you as our minituare feet trampled sunflowers and sprouts of lush grass. This was beyond an apology or even a lashing till paralysis, we have become terrorists. Against everything that a society had stood for we kindly sat and braided each other's hair in protest. "Joquena I love you." You screamed with a stomach churning tone of terror and authenticity. This had caused an assault of memories and feelings to flush my already clouded mind. Is love the sole reason for what we were trying to accomplish? Is love beyond the inevitabilty of death? "Never look back." echoed the voice of my mother as a thought of seeing who my future executioners would be dawned on me. She was right when she informed you and I last night; to see our neighbours and friends turn on us would be too great a pain as we fled. "Just a little further Lilian." I called to you foreseeing our final destination, the centre of the forest. The centre of our lives. The centre of attention forever in this town. Is love the sole reason for what we were trying to accomplish? We had mere seconds as we arrived; surrounded by towering trees that stood as our entourage. Groomsmen. Bridesmaids. Guests. "I love you Lillian." I blurted with a shimmering face of tears. "I love you too Joquena." We began to kiss feeling the sun's rays and hearing approaching steps....We were married by the law of our town. I pulled away to look at you, your focus was behind me. "Splat!" Was all I heard as a sharp pain stunned my back. Is love the sole reason for what we were trying to accomplish? We fell in unison to the pebble stoned earth. You grasped my hand with urgency and fear, a tightness associated with pain. Shadows enveloped both of us as we lay together. I peered at it's cause, the town of people led by my mother with a smoking rifle in her clutches. "Never look back." I heard again this time in person. My vision began to blur, hazily blinking I turned to see your lifeless body. This was our end together. Marriage was our beginning together. Taken away as it was given. Is love beyond the inevitabilty of death?
