First, you should see how bad the situation is. Does the person only have thoughts? Have the picked a weapon? Have they written a note? Do they have plan? If so, what is it? Asking the person is the best way to get answers.
If the situation is getting really bad really fast you should consider calling your countries emergency number.
Listen to the person with carrying, understanding, and unjudgemental responses. The last thing they need is for you to be harsh.
Do not leave the person. A suicidal person should have someone with them. If you can not stay, don't leave until help comes.
Give them reassurance and information. Give them hope. Help them locate a suicide hotline, chatroom, or a professional. You need to be their light in this time. Helping them find a support group can also benefit them. You might have to put the work in to get the person to go to a doctor or group. Remember the person is suicidal. They will not be jumping on the bandwagon.
