The helicopters landed near the entrance of Willow Valley Park, and the marines exited through the back door. They jumped down through the sewer area and got to us. After Danielle explained the whole situation including me being paralyed, two marines came to me and carried me to one the helicopters by my chest and legs, with Danielle following us. Derek was removed from the suit and placed in a body bag, where it was loaded onto another helicopter.
Since all US medical personal have evacuated to different countries, we flew back to Ensenada, where they only had one hospital/clinic on Arenas 151 , Fracc. Playa Ensenada , Baja California , Ensenada 22880. As we exited the helicopter after landing, we found who we thought would never make it out alive; the president and her family answering questions from a news reporter. We were relieved. As I was lowered onto a stretcher, I grew concerned. Where's my mom and Dr. Weber? As I was wheeled into the emergency room, I lost Danielle. Where did she go? The nurses pushed me into room and they strapped my motionless legs around with belts and even though I didn't understand Spanish, I figured that they I would receiving tests.
As I waited in bed, I heard a knock on the door. "Come in," I answered. the door opened and in came Danielle, Dr. Weber, and my mom came in with flowers and cards. We were overjoyed to each other again. We talked about what would happen to me, my mom thanked Danielle for saving me, and it all seemed well. It was a almost bittsweet reunion. I say "ALMOST " because I was paralyzed and the superhero was gone, but I was with Danielle, Dr. Weber, and my mom again alive and well.
The next day, I received a surprising visit. It was from one of the marines who saved me and brung me to the hospital. He informed me that US Marine Corp are debating about court-marialing me and he's here to ask me questions. That took me by surprise. "What the hell did I do?" I asked. "They believed that when we got attacked by the SOW back at Parris island and Washington DC, you deserted the unit...TWICE. You have anything to defend that?" I absolutely did! I explained that even though I admit I deserted the Marines twice, I thought the SOW slaughtered my entire unit and the Marines were all dead. I also defended the fact that I didn't leave my unit during Grass week at Bootcamp, my friend Danielle saved me. I gave the marine everything I could, even the tiniest details. Then he thanked me, wished me well, and left the room. That had to be the worst wake-up call ever! I couldn't be court-martialed, not after all this trouble Ive been through.
After one week, some crews stepped in and were cleaning up the damage caused by the SOW, some which were takin into custody. I released from the hospital, Now confided to a wheelchair, I moved back home to Brightcity, Texas with my mom. She almost had to do everything for me like I was a child again. I still kept in contact with Danielle who was still working at the FBI in Washington DC. But one summer day, Danielle came over for a visit after I came back from physical therapy. We talked, drank wine, and a romance started.
It was decided that US Marine Corps would not court-martial me after reviewing my side of the story because they found it plausible. I was granted a honorable discharge and was thanked for my services. I even became eligible to receive the Medal of Honor. After six months, I was awarded the Medal of Honor by the President at the White House in Washington DC.
In the following years, Danielle was promoted to Police Sergeant in the FBI for her actions. Doctor Weber resigned as a doctor and became a professor at Baylor College of Medicine. My mom continued to care for me until her tragic passing in a car accident. As for me, I was able to take college classes online that mom helped me sign up for before her unexpected death. I aced my classes and received a bachelor's degree in science after graduating. After pondering what career I wanted, I decided I wanted to be an FBI computer scientist. After moving in with Danielle at Washington DC, I applied with her help and got the job. Later on, we got married and we had two children.
As for the SOW or quote "Saviours of the World," the ones who were takin into custody were placed on trail for five weeks. Their sentences were very satisfying to heard; some received life in prison without parole; some received death. Some troops were robbers or rapists before they joined SOW. Their defense attorneys' arguments were not convincing nor affective. Some even said, the dwarfs were forced join the organization. Even if it was a valid argument, it couldn't be ignored that the SOW commited numerous atrocities. No one dwarf was released or even received a lesser sentence.
And as for the superhero, well we would never forgot the day we spied on him with a camcorder and an rc car. I did kinda feel bad for doing it as he sometimes prefered to be alone. But as they say, there's no use crying over spilt milk. We were so grateful, that Texas and Mexico honored him with a large steel statue in the Mexico-United States border. Everyone, including , me, my family, the president, and Dr. Weber attended the cemermony and we each delievered our speeches. I spoke about that although the superhero is gone, we must continue to work together to help each other and deliver justice. The superhero may not be physically here anymore, but his legacy lives on. And we have him to thank for!
