It was early June, the summer was just getting started. For the unfortunate souls in Austin, Texas this meant another three months of excruciating heat, humidity, and holiday travel.

At the airport, it was another ordinary day, businessmen fumbling to make their connection flights, children staring outside the windows watching the planes land, and retailers selling basic commodities at outrageous prices.

However, there were a few people who weren't there to fly across the country, but rather to serve as an impromptu welcome wagon for a YouTube star who was scheduled to arrive that afternoon. His real name is (y/n) (l/n), but he's more commonly known as Ridicule, a rapper who Rooster Teeth recently announced as the head of their new music department.

As the plane touched down, the young man couldn't help but get butterflies in his stomach. Granted, he was feeling that way since he accepted the job, but now that he was on the ground and a mere drive away from it, the reality was settling in quicker than he anticipated.

Collecting his things, he put on his white jacket, but as he would soon find out, it would do little to quell the heat that would be attracted to him thanks to his black shirt, jeans, and grey sneakers.

Making his way to the front of the plane and out the door into the gate, he dons his baseball cap in hopes that he could use it as cover. He still had to collect his luggage, a feat that would take could take seconds or almost an hour, depending on how quickly the boys on the tarmac moved it.

Fortunately, he didn't have to wait long, as his bag happened to be one of the first ones off. But just as he was about to take the first step towards the belt, he noticed out of the corner of his eye a small group of girls wearing the Ridicule merch he had launched that spring.

Rather than give himself away, he waited a few minutes, allowing the bags to pile up, then he swooped in and yanked it right off. Perhaps a bit too hard, as he was caught off balance and the pull along suitcase tumbled to the floor.

"Dammit." He uttered softly. However, he wasn't the only one who heard him.

"I think I heard his voice." He picked it up and glanced over behind him to where the voice was coming from.

"Oh my god. I-It's him!" The girls were looking his way, and their eyes lit up in recognition.

"Well shit, so much for the incognito plan." He muttered to himself.

Turning back, he quietly but swiftly made his way over to the exit. Not stopping to turn around until he was out and into the arrival waiting area. The girls were nowhere to be seen.

Good thing I lost them.

A buzz from his back pocket startled him, but he answered it accordingly. It was a text from Burnie, telling him to be on the lookout for someone named Meg. The 21-year-old walked up and down looking for the woman, but gave up after thirty minutes. With the heat bearing down hard on him, he took refuge at a bench in the shade, phone in hand to distract himself.

I wiped the sweat off my forehead for what must have been the seventh time since I got out into the open. How can anyone survive a climate like this? The people who live here are either crazy, not human, or some combination of the two. I honestly don't know which possibility is worse.

Looking up from my phone, I felt a tap on my shoulder and someone say "excuse me". I turned towards the voice and saw probably one of the most beautiful red headed women I've ever seen in my life.

"Can I help you?" I asked cautiously, the last thing I needed was some to draw a crowd of fans.

"Yes, are you (y/n) (l/n)?"

"Depends on who's asking."

She let out a soft giggle. "My name is Meg Turney, I was sent to pick you up and take you to Stage 5 over at Rooster Teeth."

"In that case, yes. Nice to meet you Meg."

"Nice to meet you too, please follow me."

I stood up and grabbed my stuff, following her to the car. It wasn't anything special, not that I expected workers at an Internet entertainment company to be driving luxury cars, but it was better than the junker I had back home.

I opened the trunk and tossed my bags in, slammed it shut, then hoped in the shotgun seat. As she starts up the car, one of my songs comes on the radio.

"Oh, I'm sorry," she flustered, "I forgot I had the radio on. Hopefully this isn't too awkward."

"No, no it's fine." I responded. "Honestly I didn't even know it was getting radio plays out here, much less radio plays at all."

"Trust me, you'd be surprised how many of your songs have hit the mainstream."

She backed up from her parking spot, and she drove us out through the parking lot and onto the main road. I decided to make some small talk, seeing as how we could be on the road for a while.

"So, how long have you lived in Austin?"

"About six years now, going on seven." I couldn't help but notice a red hue on her face as she answered.

I leaned forward and adjusted the fan. "Is it always this hot?"

"Yeah, you like it?"

"Not really, but I'd rather have this than the cold."

"Well, you won't get much snow down here in the winter."

"That's good to hear." I sighed. I saw her glance over at me, the red hue still present on her face. In fact, now that I think about, it happened every time we talked to each other.

I don't know why, but I felt really drowsy. Maybe it was the heat, maybe it was the jet lag, or maybe it was the lack of sleep I had the night before, or all three at once. One thing was for sure, the butterflies had calmed down a bit.
