Y/n's pov
"Y/n! Have you been listening at all?", one of my closest friends named Addison said rather annoyed.
My head shot up from the desk in my room that I was practically sprawled out on to look at my phone to see that the facetime call was still on going.
"Holy shit, I thought you hung up hours ago", I yawned as I stretched my arms over my head.
"I did not hang up. You just fell asleep, you ass", Addison rolled her eyes, but cracked a smile because she could never keep a serious expression.
"So you've been talking for hours and weren't alarmed that I was not talking back?"
"I thought you were just very invested in what I had to say", She said with pouty lips.
"As if", I replied while suppressing a hideous cackle.
"You're always finding new ways to crush my heart~"
"Yeah yeah whine whine I'm still your bestie and you love me regardless", I cut in with list adding a few dramatic poses.
"Unfortunately I do"
I rubbed my eyes and suddenly was in the mood for coffee. Out of all things I could be craving, it was this overly hyped beverage that teenage girls couldn't live without... I rarely have coffee so this clearly does not apply to me. My mind was telling me that I would regret it later, but my mouth was screaming for the damn thing. I guess I have to go to Starbucks and get an ice coffee because when I don't listen to my cravings everything goes to shit. I was totally drooling over the action of stirring that signature green straw in a grande sized cup.
"Have you mastered sleeping with your eyes open?!? Un-fucking-believable!", I heard Addison yell resulting in my fantasizing of coffee to slip away.
Again I forgot she was still on the phone. I'm literally so forgetful.
"Nah not yet. Thinking about girls and coffee ya know the usual"
"I have never seen you take a sip of coffee in your life", She added in a matter of fact sort of tone.
"And you never will. I'm off to Starbs! Bye love you dork! Kiss kiss mwah or whatever", I hurriedly said as my finger was reaching over to hit the red button.
"Don't you~"
Addison was 'rudely' interrupted by the sound of the facetime ending which was music to my ears in some circumstances. I giggled at what I just did for a few seconds, then came to realization that I was still tired and crabby. I shuffled over to the foot of my bed and put on some slides that were on the floor then grabbed my car keys from my cluttered nightstand. Before heading out the front door completely, I took a quick glance at myself in the hall mirror. A pullover sweater and some jeans was the go to outfit for me with a chain to be the cherry that tops it all off. Every time I see a mirror I just have to do a peace sign and the duck face into it, I guess it's a gen Z thing.
"Mom, I'm going out! I'll be back in a few!", I yelled out not waiting for a response because I knew she was out cold from her long shift at the hospital last night.
My mom is a doctor and it's like the coolest flex ever since my friends can never win an argument that's on the topic of health.
I was out of the house for the first time this week due to shelter in place and having to social distance. Driving made me feel free and forget about the whole pandemic. I had the car windows rolled down so I could breathe in the fresh air. Today was all sunshine and rainbows practically which is weird because this is the first day of summer vacation and I wasn't expecting it to be that nice.
The Starbucks sign caught my attention and I turned into the parking lot so fast, there was a loud screech. I was getting all smiley and giddy as I was about to open my car door until I looked at the actual cafe to see it completely empty. Out of all days the nearest and only coffee shop by me was closed. Since when is Starbucks closed? This really made my respect for them plummet. I was starting to get impatient as well as frustrated. The last resort was a Dunkin Donuts that was a twenty minute drive I found out from google. I have nothing better to do and I'm in desperate need of both coffee and some time by myself. Even though I've been at home for the past couple of weeks, my friends have been facetiming me nonstop for hours on end especially Addison, who I of course adore, but she can be a bit much hence to why I fell asleep on our call.
"Hmm an iced caramel coffee is going to do wonders I just know it... it better be good... ugh fuck you Starbucks", I spoke aloud to myself when the google map directions told me I was less than a minute from my destination."About fudging time"
I parked in front of the Dunkin and was surprised at how many cars were here, maybe people had to do the same thing I did just for a drink.
I walked up to the glass doors while putting a mask on and opened the door with the sleeve of my sweater because it's better to be safe than sorry.
It was pretty empty in the joint based off of the parked cars outside.
"Hello welcome to Dunkin. What can I get started for you?", A woman with straightened blonde hair said groggily.
I was taken back by her sense of welcoming, hospitality has really went down hill. I just ignored her attitude and stayed composed regardless.
"Can I have a chocolate vanilla swirl with cookie crunch please", I said in the same voice as the vine in hopes of getting at least a laugh out of her.
She was unamused at my attempt, but a snicker behind me didn't go unnoticed. I turned around to see a girl around my age with a comfy looking attire on. A hoodie and sweatpants, the hood obviously on her head. I just wish that I could see her face without a mask. I gave her a quick wink since I couldn't give her one of my genuine smiles and whipped my head back to the debbie downer at the register.
"A caramel iced coffee, sorry for the inconvenience", I hesitantly laughed as I handed her my debit card.
The blonde swiped it and gave it back with a receipt.
"You can pick it up at the counter over there"
I nodded then walked over to the counter to wait.
The girl that was behind me ordered next and her voice was just as angelic as her little laugh I heard earlier. She was a bit shorter than me and I already can tell that she has an undeniably good sense of humor. From head to toe I secretly check her out, my eyes landed on her shoes. They were white air force ones with a classic sprinkled donut painted on them. That's not even the best part, she had knee high socks with the Dunkin logo all over them to compliment the shoes. I smiled without realizing it.
"A caramel~"
"Mine!", I lunged for the plastic cup that was being slid over to me.
"Have a great day", the employee said with wide eyes at my previous actions.
I waved awkwardly and wanted to get out of there immediately because now I'm embarrassed.
I turned on my heels in a flash, but slammed into someone I wish I didn't.
The cold coffee in my hand had ended up all over the Dunkin socked girl along with my sweater and the floor.
"I am so sorry, I'm such a fucking idiot, I didn't mean to~"
"It's okay, accidents happen", She interjected in a surprisingly content voice for someone stained in coffee.
My eyes lingered on her for a while, they were brown, but the prettiest shade of brown I have ever seen. Our eyes seemed to be reflecting each other. It felt as if we stood there for hours, but it was only a few seconds. A throat cleared and my attention shifted to the blonde from the register standing right beside us with her hands on her hips. Her eyes diverted from us to the puddle on the floor.
"Leave now!", Blondie angrily sputtered out pointing to the door.
"But I need a new~"
"I didn't get my coffee yet, I~"
I was interrupted along with the short girl.
We both didn't want to fight with the hotheaded employee that looked like steam was going to erupt from her ears at any minute.
I walked out bummed about not having my coffee anymore nonetheless it didn't stop me to act like a gentlewoman as I held the door open for the hooded girl. She let out a whisper like 'thank you' as she passed me.
We were standing outside and I pulled my mask down to my chin. I sighed then plastered a smile on my face.
"I'm y/n, I would shake your hand, but you know corona", I shrugged.
The anticipation of seeing her face was killing me until her hands went to take off her hood and her mask to where it was dangling from one of her ears.
"I'm Charli"-
