At around 10:00 pm, Maddie was discovered missing by her mother who went to check on Maddie and discovered that she was missing herself. Kate, Maddie's mum, ran back to the tapas restaurant and shouted: "Madeleine's gone! Someone's taken her!"
At around 10:10, Maddie's mum and dad Kate and Gerry asked the resorts staff to phone the police and sixty staff and guests frantically searched the area until 04:30, first assuming that Madeleine had wandered off. From one end of the Luz to the other, you could hear people calling her name.
It was heard earlier on in the morning, whilst the family was sat down eating breakfast that Maddie had shouted "Why didn't you come when ... and I shouted for you?" Which at the time didn't seem relevant, the parents assumed that Maddie had had a nightmare and was recalling it to her parents.
One of the family's friends, spotted a man wearing gold/yellow trousers carrying a young girl who was wearing a similar colour pyjamas to what Madeleine wore the night of the tragic event and barefooted who was heading towards the sea.
