The sun was blazing. Everyone was hot and sticky. None of them wanted to stay around their houses and do nothing. It was one of those days, boiling to a crisp. Skin bubbling and sweat-producing. A day like no other. Who left the gates to hell open? Well, whoever did would get a backhand to the face from Kaminari.
The AC went out in his house a few days prior. It was overheated and practically burnt their house down when it caught on fire. He'd been powering it up for a few days while his mother scraped enough money up to buy them a new one. She was out at the moment working. How fun.
The outside world wasn't his favorite. Many times had he complained and cried to his friends about hating hot whether. It made him friz out. They all seemed to understand and laughed at his overdramatic grievances. So, where else to find him but in a cool bedroom on a fiery summer day?
Kaminari was left to his own devices. Mainly sitting in his darkroom, windows opened, curtains closed, and ps on full blast. He was playing some junk rap song while playing Mario cart. He needed to beat his best friend, Sero at it next time they played. Sero was far more of an expert for a guy that never played. He was just lucky, beginners' luck. Yeah.
He could hear the neighbor's little brats outside kicking some ball around and screaming. He kind of worried about them since their parents were always high. The weird neighborhood, full of odds and ends people. They each had a quirk to them. Like a clash of abnormal objects places and molded into a mountain of crazy. Something was always happening. The cops were beginning to pick up on everyone's deal.
Kaminari mumbled the words to the booming rap song. It was shaking his TV. His mind focused on trying to avoid the shell being thrown at him by the automated characters. They were beginning to be a pain in his side. He was already annoyed and had been since last night. Being offline for most of the day he didn't feel like being happy go lucky. Specifically, he wanted to drown out all of his feelings. The music helped.
Curse after curse and talk about hoes. It never ceased to calm his rage down. Either that or cutting again. Pretending to be happy all the time is exhausting. Ignoring his so-called "friends" was putting him in a better mood.
They picked on him a little too much. He didn't have the heart to tell them it hurt, a lot. Especially Bakugo. Kaminari knew it was his fault for putting himself in that situation but still. It ached to be called dumb so many times it drowned out all the praise he ever got. That's one of the reasons he often went offline for a few hours at a time. He'd been doing it a lot since summer school.
"Yes!" He shouted, sitting up from his position. He was laying on his stomach, rolling over to his stomach and sitting up way to fast. Kaminari had one the round. It wasn't too hard but he still won on the second try. "I did it, I did it!" He smiled, jumping off the bed to happily congratulate himself.
Small thumps from his feet on the sandy dirty carpet and piles of clothes while he danced. He finally let out a satisfied huff, his face relaxed, and staring up at his ceiling. Sero would be proud right? That was his only good friend. The one he could trust with everything. Somehow his raven-haired friend just understood.
That glint of security in his eyes and that tiny reassuring smile. How'd he do it? Kaminari can barely even laugh through the pain.
No one but Sero ever heard that crack.
