Chapter Twenty-Three;
Once Freya and Isla had finally cleaned up all of their clothes, notebooks and pens, and their broken GalaxyPhones that had fallen out of the cupboards and desks, they got into their pajamas. When it was Freya's turn to use the bathroom, she stared back at Isla who was already curled up in bed.
She turned away and walked in, closing the door with a soft click behind her. As she brushed her teeth she hummed a lullaby that her parents used to sing to her and Finley when they were children. Freya looked up at the mirror as she spat out her tooth paste and as she stood upright she noticed the tears that fell down her cheeks. Freya missed her parents as much as she ever had and it burned inside her. Missing all the people from her childhood Space Pod was all together overwhelming and she let out a sob.
On the other side of the door lay Isla who also had tears pooling in her green eyes. She missed her parents and her friends who had stayed on the childhood Space Pod. It felt like a lifetime ago that she'd last seen them. She lay quietly and heard Freya's crying from the bathroom. She groaned as she got out of bed. Her ribs felt as if someone was stabbing them repeatedly and her bruises throbbed in pain. Isla took the ice pack that Rosiee had given her off the tiny bedside table and paced it on the worst one, on her side. She looked over at Cosmo fondly; he was already sleeping at the end of her bed. He was exhausted and sad about Star, she knew.
Isla didn't disturb him and went to the bathroom door instead, knocking on it lightly, asking gently, "Freya. Can I come in?"
"It's-it's open," she sniffed, "I'm such a mess. I'm sorry." She smiled slightly at her beautiful friend and hugged her.
"Don't be. So am I. I mean, just look at me," Isla replied, pulling away slightly showing Freya the ice pack in her hand. She laughed in response then grew quiet.
"I just miss them so much," whispered Freya after a while. She didn't need to say who she missed; Isla already knew and she was there to wipe away her tears that were falling down her face. They hated seeing each other like this and hugged another tighter. Isla didn't pull away when the hug started hurting her and it was only when Freya noticed that they both pulled away.
"Sorry. You should have said it was hurting you!" Freya said, shaking her head. Her pale blue eyes were sore and red from crying and she looked exhausted.
"Should we go back?" Isla suggested, gesturing to the bedroom. Freya nodded and together they got into their own beds.
Staring up at the ceiling, Isla whispered, "I wish there was a way of contacting other Space Pods without it having to be an emergency. I just wish that we could at least talk to them, you know?" Freya didn't reply and gazed at the 23-year-old. She had missed her very much and until that moment didn't realize how much. Isla had always been her for her and when she wasn't in those few days when no one really knew what happened to her Freya was beside herself. Freya blamed herself for it mostly, even though everyone said it was Taylor's fault for getting the Space Suit for Isla, she couldn't help wondering what would've happened had she managed to dissuade her from going or even have gone with her.
After a while when she thought that Freya had gone to sleep she suddenly spoke up giving Isla a shock and she sat up so abruptly that the small of her back twinged in pain.
Well, I don't see why that would be impossible. Maybe we can ask Rosiee, Taylor or Finley to try and tamper with the GalaxyPhones providing it's not broken, Rosiee could try and make it work with the laptop. Isla thought about what she'd said for a minute and turned to face her once more.
"That's a great idea," she replied. Thinking for a second She continued "I'm planning to write tomorrow, which I feel like I haven't done in ages. if you wanted, we could do it together; you could draw and I could write. Like we used to,"
