Madelyn awoke in a hospital bed, Pin sitting asleep in the chair beside her. She tapped his hand, "Pin?" She questioned- causing the boy to wake up. "Maddie? You're awake!" He said happily, before heading outside to get a nurse. Maddie was then checked over, they found that she had a sprained ankle and a bruised leg and back but not much else- she was very lucky. "Is Dexter okay?" Maddie questioned. Pin's face changed, Madelyn instantly knew something was wrong. "What?" Maddie questioned. "Look we decided to leave the final choice up to you but I think it's better to put him to rest." Pin explained, Madelyn had a cry but then continued to think about it. Pin had explained the injury, she knew that Dexter would hate to be a paddock horse."Can I see him one last time?" Madelyn questioned, Pin nodded. Soon, the girl was discharged and they headed to the clinic. Madelyn entered the stall of Dexter, Dex turned to her and gave a small whinny. Madelyn teared up, she reached her hand out to pat the dapple grey gelding one last time, as she did, she wrapped her hands around Dexter's neck, giving him a tight hug before letting go. Soon, Dexter was laid to rest and Madelyn couldn't of been any more heart broken.
She sat peacefully in her bed, fiddling with her phone- flicking through old memories. Her favourite was the one of her and Dexter galloping along the beach. Holloway had called the girl in, she could've borrowed Elvis but decided to ask her father to drive her in, considering she didn't want to injure herself any further. When she arrived, she saw her team mates surrounding a horse float. Callum gave her a bright smile, before it dropped- especially when he realised Madelyn wasn't happy. "Why?" She questioned. Callum thought for a moment, "You need to be ready for the shows." Callum said in response, giving a shrug. Madelyn shook her head, she considered she might as well take the horse.
She opened the float, revealing a gorgeous blue roan sports horse. Madelyn shook her head, unloading the mare and leading her to a stable. "Thanks, I guess." She said with a shrug, her cheeks still stained from crying throughout the day. Callum pulled Madelyn into a tight yet comforting hug, "I'm always here for you, Maddie." He said softly.
Madelyn pulled away, giving a nod before she begin to walk home- considering Ted had gone to Bright Fields. The world just felt grey to Madelyn, she missed Dexter so much already.
