The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum has been a favorite story of mine since the tender age of two. According to my mother, she had to read or tell me the story of Dorothy's adventures in Oz nearly every day for years. Yet, I've never written anything related to this beloved classic. Therefore, I decided this year's Rewind the Classics contest was the perfect opportunity to amend that.

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald is one of the novels that changed the way I see literature. I was eighteen when I fell in love with Fitzgerald's unapologetically flawed characters. In homage to his genius, there are many direct quotes from his timeless novel in my story. Can you spot them all?

This is not just a retelling, but a mashup of two of the books that have most altered my perception of literature. Once I began looking, I couldn't believe the parallels.

I hope this short story will give you the cozy feeling of nostalgia that writing it has given me. As always, thank you for reading.
