Gatsby worked his magic. Two phone calls and one delivery later, a hot air balloon of vibrant ruby red awaited me.

A quick utilization of the burner inspired the balloon to begin its slow ascent, carrying me skyward in the passenger basket. With a giddy shiver of anticipation, I grinned at my four shrinking companions.

"Meeting you was the bee's knees, Nick!" Jordan declared. "Happy birthday!"

"Stay honest!" Tom instructed.

"We'll miss you terribly, Nicky!" Daisy cried. She blew me a series of kisses. "Do come and visit!"

"I will!" I promised, holding my hand aloft in a parting wave.

"You have a flair for West Egg, old sport," Gatsby called up to me. "A quiet charm. Are you certain I can't convince you to stay?"

"Thank you kindly for the offer, Mr. Gatsby," I replied. I smiled down at his handsome face as the balloon drifted higher. "But there's no place like home."
