"Alcohol is the anesthesia by which we endure the operation of life." ~ George Bernard Shaw

Brent's POV

I swear if this lady tells me to hold on for five minutes one more time—

"Hey," I said dully into the phone.

"Brent, how's it going? The meeting's about to start. It's missing you," Drew said.

I sighed. Had I known I would spend almost the whole day at the firm, I'd have re-scheduled to come back another time.

"The lady has been telling me to hold on for five more minutes for the past two hours. I planned that I'd spend an hour tops so I could meet up with the meeting but it's been over two hours and I still don't know what is going on."

"What did she say happened to the lawyer? Why can't he see you?"

"That's the crazy part, Drew. She's not saying any fucking thing!"

"Calm down, man. Relax. Did you ask her?"

"I'm trying to stay calm but I'm hot as fuck in this suit. I've been asking to see him for the past two hours. I even told her Javier referred me and she should check his schedule. She did, saw my fucking name but is still saying the same fucking thing. Sir, I'm sorry for the delay. Mr Riggs will be joining you soon. Kindly wait five more minutes. Five more minutes for the past two hours."

"Well, that's messed up. Should we start without you?"

"Yeah, I guess. There's no point leaving now. It'll take me about an hour to get to shadow creek. And I've waited this long so I might as well see him before I leave."

"Okay, man. I'll tell Rachel. I'll see you when you get home. And there'll be another meeting so you could meet with Sam and know where you come in as regards planning and stuff."

"Oh, Sam is there?"

"Yeah. Rachel scheduled a meeting for today. Wolfe brought her. We don't want to keep her waiting for long on the first day. Doesn't say much about our work ethic."

"I understand. This shit is pissing me off for real," I paced the open space, trying to calm my nerves.

Drew laughed on the other end. "Calm down before you scream at the poor secretary. She's just doing her job."

"Well she needs to do more because she's doing a shitty ass version of her job."

"Okay, bro. Talk to you later."

"Yeah. Bye."

I hung up the call and headed back for the reception with the intention of giving the lady an earful when I heard a bass voice call my name.

"There you are! Hello, Mr Callaghan," he stretched his hand forward for a handshake and I joined mine with his. "Sorry to have kept you waiting. This way to my office," he smiled and pointed in the direction of two huge double doors.
