Hard Times

(The next day)

The four VKs were walking up the steps of the back of Auradon Prep. As they were walking by guys were waving and flirting with Lonnie.

One guy walked up holding a rose. "Lonnie, will you go to the Cotillion with me?"

Lonnie took the rose and smiled at them. "I'll let you know."

They smiled back excitedly, then walked off.

"Why do you torture them?" Jane asked lightly hitting Lonnie's arm. "Just pick someone to go to Cotillion with already."

"I'm going solo." Lonnie said with confidence. "That way, I can dance with all of them."

"Ah, you're the expert." Jane replied with a slight chuckle. Um, Lonnie. If you were gonna ask someone, what's the best way to go?"

"Listen, all you gotta do." Lonnie said with a pause and Jane nodded listening in. "Is look like me."

"Oh, ha ha." Jane laughed sarcastically.

"Ben." Carlos walked up.

"Hey, Carlos." Jane said nervously.

"Hey." Carlos smiled.

"I was wondering... Uh..." Jane looked at Lonnie for support, then back at Carlos. "If you liked the carrot cake last night?"

"I had the pumpkin pie." Carlos stated.

"Oh. Cool. Uh, uh..." Jane was going to say.

"Smooth." Lonnie said quietly and pulled Jane away.

Doug walked forward as Jay walked up beside Carlos.

"I have an opening for a suit fitting at 3:00. Who wants it?" Doug questioned.

"I'll take it. I got nothing to do." Jay answered before Carlos could say anything. "Sorry."

"Great. Carlos, I'll take you later." Doug told them.

Then they walked away to take about other things. Ben wanted to try sneaking past Carlos, but he saw him.

"Ben." Carlos called.

"Yes." Ben stepped forward.

"I hate to keep bugging you, but the Decorating Committee keeps bugging me because they need more answers. So as much as I hate to, um..." Carlos was saying. "You know, um..."

"Bug me. Yeah." Ben finished for him.

"Right." Carlos smiled.

"Carlos, I would love to. I just have to get class. And isn't this something Mal would be doing?" Ben tried walking away.

"You know, just nod if you like it." Carlos stopped him.

"Okay." Ben forced a chuckle.

"Chair swags, entry banner, twinkle lights, napkin design, table bunting, and you still haven't picked the party favors yet." Carlos was going on.

"Honestly, Carlos, whatever..." Ben tried saying.

"I mean, we do chains, key charms, pen toppers." Carlos interrupted Ben. "I kind of love the pen toppers, but I mean, we can do all three."

Ben breathed heavy and his eyes flashed green. He closed them. Carlos was looking at Ben scared. Then Ben breathed out looking at Carlos.

"I say pen toppers." Ben smiled at Carlos and said in a fake happy voice.

"Yeah?" Carlos checked and Ben nodded. "Great! You won't regret it."

"Okay." Ben smiled.

"Bro, I can't wait to see what your wedding is gonna look like." Jay said as he wrapped his arm around Carlos' shoulder and Doug stood on the other side of Carlos.
