Remus's bones ached in anticipation for the full moon in three days. A chill always seemed to follow him throughout the castle. No matter how many times he cast a warming charm on his jumpers, the heat always left him quickly.

He sat in front of the common room fireplace as the clock slowly ticked, bringing the moon closer and closer still. Funny how he could feel the pull of the moon. As if he was part of the wide expanse of the ocean and like the waves that crashed on the rocky shore, he obeyed to moons every command.

He often times wonder what his life would have been like if he had never been bitten. He wondered how different he would be. Not that it mattered, he couldn't change the past.

"Is everyone in a sour mood today?" James said as he sauntered into the common room. He plopped down next to Remus and looked at his pointedly.

If James noticed his mood, it must be really obvious. "Who else had their knickers in a twist?" Peter asked looking up from his Potions essay.

"Sirius. He was irritated in Divination today."

"Isn't he always?" He was. He hated Divination with a passion.

James shrugged. "It was more so than usual today. He said it had something to do with Astrology, but I don't know..."

"Where is he anyway?" Remus shifted the conversation from his Furry Little Problem as Sirius referred to it.

"Detention. Minnie wasn't too happy about the display of genius in Charms today. He should be back around 10."

"Where did he learn that spell?" Peter chirped as he spilt his ink all over his parchment.

"Me. He asked for a way to change hair colour quickly." Remus shrugged. It wasn't that difficult. If he had tried researching, he would have found it on his own.

"That's dangerous. We've gotta be careful if he has a spell like that." James added thoughtfully.

"Don't worry, I have to counter spell too. Bold of you to assume I would tell Sirius a spell like that and not be ready to fix it." Remus said smiling.

"Gotta hand it to you Moony, you're always on step ahead." As the conversation faded into homework the times passed peacefully. Remus was able to distract himself momentarily from the moon and the scares.

10 o'clock sprinted toward the common room much like a panting Sirius Black. He burst through the door laughing and out of breath.

He planted himself on top of Remus and James heavily causing James to grunt and Remus to raise an amused eyebrow.

Remus was just about to ask what he was running from when it stormed into the common room with homicide glinting in her eyes.

"BLACK!" McKinnon yelled as she stormed over to him. Quickly he hid behind Remus, still laughing his head off. Remus could see why he was laughing, he had used the spell again. Her hair was hot pink, greatly contrasting her darker complexion.

"Don't worry, I have the counter curse." Remus said calmly.

"THEN DO IT!" She was fuming, causing a scene.

"Alright alright, hold still." He held his hands up in surrender. Then he lifted his wand and quickly changed her hair back to its usual brown.

"You'll pay for this Black." She threatened then stormed off, passing a puzzled Lily Evan on the staircase.

"Potter, what did you do?" She immediately acused.

James held his hand to his heart and gasped looking hurt. "Why must you assume it was me? My Flower, the love of my life, why do you hurt me so?" He turned away dramatically.

"It was Sirius." Remus told her promptly.

"Oi! Don't throw me under the train!" Sirius protested.

"Should've know." She shook her head and sighed. She knew she was fighting a losing battle. But later she'd come back to win the war. "Come one Remus."

"Where are you going?" Peter asked. He has smeared ink onto his face.

"Patrol. I'm a Prefect remember?" Remus shrugged off the blanket in his shoulders and unfolded his lanky body. How on earth could someone his height look so small?

"Don't leave me at the mercy of McKinnon!" Sirius called out to him fake fainting.

James gasped as if an affaire was brought to light. "You get to be alone with my one true love? Traitor!" He cried as Remus and Lily walked out of the common room.

The Patrol was peaceful, they didn't catch any students but had run into peeves. After his performance of Lonny Loopy Lupin, Remus applauded him and sent him to got pester Filtch much to Lily's complaint.

"It's time to head back." Lily jawed as the time rounded to one.

Remus could only nod. His eye lids were heavy and the weight of the day pressed down on him. He didn't know if he could do this tomorrow.

As they slowly stepped back into the common room, they say three figures near the fire place. A sleeping James and Peter, and a tired Sirius.

Lily smiled and wished him a good night as she made her way to the girls dormitory.

"You didn't have to stay up you know." Remus whispered as he sat down next to Sirius in the floor.

"I know." Sirius shrugged and gave him a small smile.

"Why did you hex McKinnon?" Remus looked over at Sirius who was staring into the fire. He gave a noncommittal shrugged and didn't answer. "Sirius..."

"I don't know... I guess she come on to strong or something..." A small embarrassed blush rose from his cheeks.

To those who didn't know Sirius Black, they just assumed he'd enjoy all the girls throwing themselves at him. But fir those who did know him, they knew that he had never shown any interest in dating anyone.

Really he hated all the attention he'd get for his looks. He wanted to be remembered as a prankster, not a player. So Remus didn't laugh, he just smiled and playfully bumped into Sirius's shoulder. "Now I feel bad for fixing it."

"Nah, she did really deserve pink hair. It was funny though."

"Yeah, it was. Come on, lets wake the two heavy weighs up and get up to our dorm."

Another night passed and the moon seemed to brush it's pale cold fingers on Remus's skin. He shivered and curled up into a ball. He nearly missed the weight on another blanket weigh on him as he fell asleep.

Even if he could change the past, he wasn't sure he would. You don't come across friends like Sirius, James, and Peter very often. He would rather have them than take the chance to never had met them.
