I woke up with a mad headache. Oh yeah, we're in a school where we're being forced to kill each other. Wonderful. I walked out of my room and into the gym. Surprisingly, I was the 11th one there. Sapphire and Andrew were nowhere to be found. Like always, Ezra brought food for us for breakfast. He seemed super bummed though.
"What's wrong boss?" Matthew asked.
"I let members of my team die. I'm not worth the title of ultimate team manager. Lexi died, and now Dominic is near death. I've failed." He sighed as he slumped down onto a chair.
"Get over it you big lard. You're not our manager, and they are not your teammates. So just shut it, will you?" Caroline barked. Very out of character. I want expecting that.
"Aw, come on cap'n. It's just natural selection at its finest." Matthew stood proudly, probably because he used big words and felt cool.
"Has anyone checked on Dominic yet?" Regan asked.
"He's on the second floor. We can't get to him." Ezra said.
"About that." Sapphire said as she entered the room. "The gate is gone. We can go explore the second floor."
"Maybe there's somewhere we can get out." Caroline suggested.
"Sapphire, why were you over there?" Colin asked.
"I went to go see Dominic." She shrugged. "Did anyone get any food for me? I'm starved."
"You can have mine. I don't deserve it." Ezra sighed.
"Shut up. Other people here have done much worse things than you did. Anyway, we are not your athletes. You are not our manager. So stop acting like it." Caroline snapped. What is with her?
"You're right. I need to take this experience and learn from it so I can be even better!" Ezra exclaimed. Caroline rolled her eyes. "Everyone! Finish up and investigate floor two; you three, come with me." He pointed to me, Regan and Colin. We walked with him to the second floor. In the hallway, we walked past a game room, more bathrooms, a locker room, supposedly leading to a pool, and at the end the nurses office. We walked through the door. Sitting on the bed was Dominic, facing the wall.
"Hey Dominic. How's it going?" Ezra asked.
"Go away." He mumbled.
"It's not your fault." I told him.
"I tried to defend her."
"You were just trying to stay alive." Regan said.
"I should've died." He turned around. His arm was in a sling, he had bandages covering his left eye, some of his hair was singed off, and he had giant burn marks on his clothes and skin.
"Dude, don't say that. You're lucky to be alive." Colin said.
"I'm sorry." He said.
"It's ok." I said. "Come on, let's go get some food."
"And some new clothes." Colin snickered.
"I'm keeping my hat. It's my calling card."
"I'm surprised it survived the explosion without a scratch." I said.
"Power of the hat." He shrugged.
"Alright, let's go." Ezra said.
"You look horrendous." Mason mocked.
"Thanks, that's just what I needed." Dominic said.
"How are you still alive?" Jaiden asked.
"Not sure. A lot of internal bleeding has happened. I will pass out sooner or later. Don't worry, because if I do, then that means I'm probably dead." He shrugged.
