She awoke disorientated. Where was she? The albino girl was at a party and then. . .
The dark chuckles of three men echo in her head causing her to bolt up making her body groan in pain. Desperate, shuddery breathes wrack her body. When she reaches up to clutch her chest, she finds herself only in her bra with one of the straps snapped.
Any evidence of a shirt was gone. But she already knew it had been torn off.
There was a man with her. He introduced himself but she couldn't focus enough to really hear the name. All she got was he was a paramedic.
"Ma'am you are in an ambulance on your way to South City General Hospital. Someone called 911 when they found you wandering out of the South City University campus calling for help," The man informed her. "Do you remember what happened to you?"
Her injured body trembles violently and she curls over hyperventilating, closing her unharmed eye hoping it would calm her. But she can still feel hands on her, forcing her down, beating her, ripping every inch of her to shreds.
A hand brings her own to the oxygen mask on her face. The paramedic tells her to take deep breathes. She nods and does her best to inhale with her bruised ribs.
"Miss what is your name?" He asks.
"Rosaline Newgate."
"Do you know how you got here?"
"No."
"We're you attacked? Did someone hurt you?" He inquired testing various injuries for severity now that she was conscious.
The girl has to force herself not to flinch when she was touched. She tried to speak but her throat was dry, hoarse, and sore but she finally manages to tremble out, "Yes."
"Your injuries are severe but not life-threatening. We are only a few minutes out from the hospital where they can do a further assessment." He does his best to put her at ease.
"Thank you," She responds fairly evenly with a small smile desperate for some sense normalcy.
He continues to ask simple questions on their way there to further assess her injuries. He also asks about her degree, her life, and fills empty space with small talk to keep her distracted. She clings onto those questions, they're the only things keeping her here.
The ride could have been minutes or hours she wouldn't have known. She was not paying attention to time. Her mind ran on a loop, replaying the vicious assault again and again and again even with the paramedic doing his best to keep her distracted.
Finally, she is wheeled into the ER. A young doctor leans over her, "Hello Miss Newgate my name is Dr. Trafalgar. My team and I will be taking care of you today." Rose squints at the doctor finally noticing she didn't have her glasses. He looks like a tan blob with black hair.
He and his team quickly go to work. Cleaning the wounds around her wrist from were rope had cut deep, another wound that split up her lip, and scraps on her shoulder blades from being pushed up against bricks then ground into the tar.
They also splint a broken wrist, brace a severe ankle sprain, and wrap her torso tight to protect broken ribs.
When everything is all said and done the doctor and a female nurse are all that is left in the room. The doctor starts gently, "Miss Newgate with the types of injuries you have sustained we were wondering if you would like to speak with one of our specialists."
The ivory girl stares at them in silence conflicted. She knew her boyfriend was there when this happened. If she did talk to a specialist could they really keep her safe from him or would she just get in trouble and be beaten again?
