Birds sing their songs as morning arrives and angels wake from their sleep. As Cain stretches his arms and wings, he looks over to the calendar placed above his desk. Today's the day. It's his 124th birthday and today he gets his assignment. He hurriedly makes his bed then rushes to the washroom to clean up. He parts his hair nicely and brushes his wings out then heads to the AngelHouse. It's where most of the angels in Heaven work.

When he arrives, there's a long line outside the doors. There are a lot of angels receiving there assignments today. He sees a familiar face at the end of the line and lowers onto the sidewalk behind him. "Are you excited?" Cain asks his friend. "More than excited, I hope I get a patrolling job down on Earth."

Cain hopes the same for himself. Though, he would lose his wings. To be a Patrol Angel, you have to keep the lowest profile. Keeping a job, though human currency is meaningless to an angel, and acting just like a human. He wouldn't mind the simple life in the human world though.

"The line is moving, come on."

The good thing about living in Heaven is that there really isn't a wait for anything. Within moments, he's next in line to receive his assignment. "Cain, you're next. You may enter," one of the officials says while opening the door to the chamber.

"Hello Cain, are you ready to receive your assignment?" The boy nods and steps forward to receive the envelope. Enclosed is what he will be doing and where. He holds his breath and pulls the slip of paper out and silently reads it to himself.

ASSIGNMENT: PATROL ANGEL
LENGTH OF ASSIGNMENT: INDEFINITE
WHERE: MINNEAPOLIS,  MINNESOTA, USA

The boy smiles at the results and waves goodbye to the council. The next place he has to go is the next house over. It's the Patrol Angel Headquarters, or PAH for short. There, he'll learn how to keep order and safety on the streets of his assigned location. Cain has also heard from Patrol Angels before him that they will debrief new patrol men and women about the Terrorizers.

Outside the AngelHouse, he spots his friend to share the news. "What's your assignment?" Cain asks. "Councilman. One of the angels on the council is retiring and I suppose they thought I was right for it. I start tomorrow," he explains.

"Congratulations, friend. That's a big job, and I agree that you're the right angel for the job." His friend nods at the compliment. "How about you? What's your assignment?"

"Patrol Angel in Minnesota," Cain happily answers. "That's great news, I'm sure you'll do a fantastic job, Cain." The two angels talk for a while longer then part ways to go about their days.

At the end of the day, Cain is back at his home, packing for his deployment to Earth. He knows all of his clothes will transform into a more earthly look once he gets past the gates. Which, he is supposed to be leaving for Earth any minute, so he zips his suitcase and heads for the gates to fly off to his location.

"Angel Cain, you are to deploy to Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA. Your time there is indefinite. If you fail to complete your duties you will return here to appear before the council to receive your punishment. Do you understand this?" The Deployment officer explains. Cain nods. With a snap of his fingers, the officer opens the gates and Cain flies off to start his new life on Earth.

~ DAY 1 ON EARTH ~

"My name is Cain, and I'm here to apply for a job. How do I go about that?" he asks the person at the counter - he ended up waltzing into a gas station as soon as he landed. The person reaches under the counter and pulls out a piece of paper and slides it across over to the angel. "What's this?" he asks. "It's an application. Just fill it out and bring it back." Cain nods and exits the store.

The first hard task of now living on Earth?: figuring out how to get around without his wings. They disappeared as soon as he landed. He decides to walk to the motel a few blocks down from the gas station. When angels get assigned to patrol life on Earth, they are given at least $1,000 to start themselves off so that they aren't homeless. 'It'd be nice if they just gave us homes to live in from the start,'  he thinks to himself. However, they don't.

The walk from the store to the motel lasts about 10 minutes. Once he's arrived, he checks in and immediately goes to his room to rest his feet. While he lays on his new bed, he checks the documents that the council gave to him while he was in Heaven. It's a few pages of lists. Lists of all of the civilians in Minnesota and whether they're 'good or bad'; lists of all of his duties; lists of all of the things he is allowed to do and not allowed to do. Number one on that last list?

NO DEVELOPMENT OF ROMANTIC RELATIONS BETWEEN APPOINTED ANGEL AND A HUMAN.

It's written in bold and italics. Obviously an important rule. But, Cain has never felt romantic feelings towards another being. Not even an angel back home. So it shouldn't be too hard of a rule to follow, right? One of his main duties is to save kids. They ARE the future of the Earth after all.  Before closing the folder containing all of his documents, he decides he will befriend a few of the neighborhood kids before his first week is over.

He sets the folder on the table beside him and turns out the light, and soon, the angel is fast asleep.
