Chapter 30: Bluebirds

Saturday, February 17th, Afternoon

Marinette ran around her apartment looking for her phone as Tikki watched videos on the computer. Tikki was going to stay in Marinette's room today and catch up on current events while Marinette hung out with her friends at Juleka's.

"MOM, CALL MY PHONE! I can't find it!" Marinette opened her hatch and yelled downstairs. 

"Got it, honey!" A moment later, Marinette heard her phone ringing. She went to her bed, and found it underneath her blanket. Marinette rolled her eyes, since she had already looked under her throw blanket and didn't see her phone. She had a few texts on a grouptext with all the girls (another two exist with 1.just Adrien, Mari, Alya, and Nino 2. all their friends, not just the girls)

Texts: Mari, Alya, Rose, Juleka, + Mylene

Mylene: Ivan and I are going to be late.

Mylene:...he fell in a puddle and now we are going back to his house so he can change fast

Alya: LMAO that's hilarious

Rose: He's ok right??

Mylene: Ya he's fine just wet and annoyed 

Juleka: Oof

Mylene: See ya soon! 

Marinette picked up her phone. Going to her texts with Alya

Alya: girl where you at?

Marinette: Couldn't find my phone

Marinette: leaving now

"Bye, Tikki." Marinette walked over to Tikki, returning her hug as Tikki hugged her cheek. "Keep the volume of my computer low or put captions on so my parents don't come upstairs!"

"Bye, Marinette! Have fun at Juleka's."

Marinette walked downstairs, bidding her parents goodbye, and taking the short walk to Juleka's. She faintly heard the music from a block away. As Marinette walked closer, she saw Nino was acting as dj at the party, and Alya standing nearby with the others.

'Hey everyone!" Marinette said as she boarded the boat. 

"Hey girl!"

"Hi Mari!" 

The kids sat in one big group. Juleka sat nxet to Rose, followed by Alix, and Max. Kim sat on Juleka's other side, and then Nathaniel and Alya were standing at the snack table. Nino, of course, was behind the dj stand.

"Hey Marinette." 

She jumped and turned to her left. Sighing, she realized who it was. "Hi Luka!"

He smiled, walking closer to her. His bright blue hair moving back and forth in the breeze. "You look nice, as always. So, enjoying the party?" 

"Just arrived." Marinette reciprocated his smile, her cheeks red. She didn't know if it was a crush or just his forwardness, but Luka always made her blush. Whether or not that was his intention remains to be seen. "What about you?"

"I was in my room. Now, I'm leaving. I got a job."

"That's why I'm glad to have a job and internship that is strictly weekdays." Marinette joked, while making a stern face.

"Lucky girl. I'll see you later if I get back in time."

"Bye, Luka." Marinette gave him a frienly hug and walked over to Alya, stepping over Nino who had left the dj stand, now sitting next to Alya. 

"What's going on?" She asked.

"Waiting on Mylene and Ivan before we get started. Just talking about the field trip coming up." Nathaniel responded. Marinette paused, leaving her mouth open. "You forgot?"

"When is the form due?" Last time they had a field trip, she got the permission slip in the day it was due, and barely made it then. 

"Tuesday." Okay, that was enough time for her to remember, forget, remember, and almost forget. "I'm excited." Nathaniel continued. "We always go to the same places, and we're finally going somewhere new. A whole day exploring a castle in centre-val de loire. So much amazing artwork and artitecture!"

"Not to mention the history behind the castle." 

"Kim! Alix!" Max groaned, jumping up from his seat.

Marinette and Nathaniel smiled at each other, before turning their attention back to the group. Alix and Kim had each grabbed a pool noodle and were balancing on the edge of the boat. 

"It's alright Max." Juleka shrugged. "The boat is tied in tight so it won't move, and worst case, they'll fall in. They already took their phones out of their pockets and took extra layers off."

"I'm not going to be the one who falls in!" Kim says confidently, blocking an attack from Alix. She moved back, carefully moving her feet so she won't fall overboard.

"It might not be a cold day, but it's still february! The water is freezing." Max reasoned.

"Hey, is that Odette?" Alix raised her voice to an innocence, curious tone, causing Kim to turn around, just in time for her to grab his noodle and knock him overboard. "HA! Sucker." Kim glared and her, dunking his head under the cold water and spitting water at Alix.

"I'll grab a towel." Rose jumped up.

"I feel like everytime we hang out some competition occurs between those two." A voice said from behind Alya. They all turned to see Ivan and Mylene boarding the ship. "Can't you chill for a few hours?"

"Never!" Alix and Kim say, as he pulled himself aboard.

The hangout continued until sundown, where they as people went home for dinner. It was a fun day, one of the days were you're no longer worried and everything seems okay. Everything is fine.
