Girls?

Waking up the next day, I felt so much lighter than the day before, knowing I actually had people to talk to. I even spent time doing my makeup, applying some eyeliner and highlighter, and my favorite clear lip gloss. I did my hair in two pigtails with two pink bows wrapped around the hair ties. I also picked a bolder outfit, pairing a cropped butterfly tank top with some cute white shorts and a pair of light blue Converse.

I paused a brief moment in front of my mirror and almost changed, suddenly thinking maybe my outfit was a bit too childish, but the red digits on my clock threatened that the bus's arrival was very soon. Hoping that it wasn't too bad, I rushed downstairs, grabbed my bookbag and an apple, then sprinted outside as the bus pulled up to my stop.

I greeted the bus driver and plopped down in the seat by Micah blowing out a breath.

Micah smiled warmly at me, "You okay, Peanut?"

"Yeah, I just spent too much time getting ready today and had to run to get out here,"

He scoffed playfully, "Girls,"

I raised my eyebrow as I looked up at his hair, "How long did you spend on your hair this morning?"

He smiled sheepishly, "Like forty-five minutes or so,"

I smirked, "That's what I thought,"

He rolled his eyes and spent the rest of the bus ride trying to tickle me and make me laugh. When we finally arrived at the school, I had to fix my hair because of how much he had messed it up, glaring at his back as we walked over to the group. We were met with laughter and I was about to ask how everyone was when an unfamiliar voice spoke first.

"Aww, you guys weren't kidding when you said she was cute," a feminine voice said, making me immediately tense up.

I ducked behind Micah and my face flamed a bright red. I could see Micah's shoulders shaking as he quietly laughed at me but I didn't really care as my social anxiety reared its ugly head.

"Come on Peanut, they won't bite you," Micah tried to maneuver me around him.

I was planning various ways of murder when he decided I was taking too long and moved out of the way to expose me to the newcomers. Shyly, I ducked my head down and looked up through my lashes. Before me, were three of the prettiest girls I had ever seen, sans Lauren.

'Get it together, Allison,! They're just teenagers just like you,' I mentally chastised myself and forced myself to come out behind Micah. I was greeted with three equally warm smiles, seemingly unperturbed by my little freak-out.

"Hi Ally, I'm Chloe, Mitchell's sister," a tall, beautiful dark-skinned girl walked up to me, her hand stretched out for me to shake it. She wore a cropped white halter top with black overalls over top. She had cute circle framed glasses that rested on her pierced nose and made her eyes even bigger.

Her contagious smile helped me relax a little as I lifted my hand to meet hers, "Nice to meet you,"

Chloe was soon replaced with a cheerful girl with skin and eyes like gold. Her long brown hair hung in beautiful curls around her heart face. Her outfit consisted of a t-shirt with a band I did not recognize, fashionably ripped black jeans and chunky combat boots with lots of buckles. Her rings caught the light of the sun as she reached out to me, "Hi, I'm Marcella. So, Caleb told us you were going to try out for the dance team?"

Quickly, I glanced over at Caleb for help, but he was too occupied with staring at Chloe, who hadn't noticed the holes he was staring into the side of her head. Nervously, I chuckled and shrugged, wiping my suddenly sweaty hands on my shorts.

The last girl pushed Marcella out of the way, a smirk firmly in place on her face, "You've been here all of five minutes and you're already harassing the girl about that," She shook her head and met my eyes. The brush of freckles over her nose added to her charm as she smiled warmly, "I'm Macie. It's nice to meet you Ally and I apologize in advance for anything stupid one of these children will do,"

This time I let out a genuine laugh, making Macie smile harder. She stepped back and I took in her pretty long white skirt that reached her ankles and made her skin look almost golden. She also wore a crocheted crop top and an assortment of gold plated bangles and bracelets up both of her arms. Her long blonde hair was down past her shoulders with two little braids upfront around her face.

"Nice to meet y'all," I nodded, my tense shoulders slowly relaxing as I took in their friendly smiles and postures.

Suddenly, I was airborne. Two long arms wrapped around my torso, lifting me high into the air and spinning. I let out a small squeak as laughter resounded around me. After far too much twirling, I was set down and I quickly turned to glare at the beautiful giant smirking down at me.

"Good morning, Angel," Lauren looked down at me, ignoring the lasers I was trying to shoot at her through my eyes.

"Must you manhandle me, you brute?" I teased, making her smile widen.

"Only if you ask nicely," she winked at me as she finally let me go.

I pushed her away playfully, although she didn't move much since she was like two feet taller than me. Pushing against her was like pushing a wall. Despite my still racing heart, I smiled at her and took the time to take her in. Today, she had on a red jersey-style shirt that showed off the lean muscles in her arms and shoulders. Her jeans were light-washed and hugged her perfectly to showcase just how toned she was everywhere. The red converse matched mine except she was about 10 sizes bigger than me. Her long hair had been brushed back to a high ponytail and her skin seemed to glow in the sun, creating an almost ethereal look about her.

When I finally met her eyes, my face flamed as I realized she was studying me with the same intensity I had just given her. Her eyes lingered for a second too long to be considered accidental on my torso and then slowly traveled back up to my hair and face. When she finally, met my eyes, my face was so red I swore I might explode. She smirked and since she had never stepped away from me after spinning me, she was still very close, so when she leaned down slightly to speak, only I could hear her.

"You look gorgeous, Angel," she greeted me with a genuine smile, a hand coming up to run through one of my pigtails and I'm honestly embarrassed to say how good it felt. I was a split second away from my eyes rolling back and letting her touch my hair all day when I heard an excited squeal from behind me. My blush quickly surfaced again as I turned to look at Marcella and Chloe with bright smiles stretched over their faces. The guys were having a separate conversation but I could still sense the air of amusement that surrounded them. Macie was smirking at us and holding her phone up like she was taking our picture. A couple of other bystanders were openly staring at us and talking amongst themselves on their way into the building.

I groaned, my cheeks ablaze, and dropped my head against Lauren and mumbled, "This is your fault. I was never this popular before,"

Lauren laughed loudly, making my head vibrate against her, "I seriously doubt that, angel. You were probably one of those girls that everyone was too scared to talk to because of how pretty you were,"

I scoffed and backed up, shooting her an incredulous look. She just shrugged and threw her arm over me and we started making our way to the school.

'If only you knew.'
