personality
positive traits | out going, charming, flirty, intelligent
negative traits | disloyal, self destructive, low self esteem, can be aggressive, not empathic, can be selfish
longer version | Max is, at heart, a man's man. He can be loud and confident, with a boyish sense of humour and gentle mannerisms. Though not overtly extroverted, he can be disarmingly charming and flirtatious, with a strong sense of himself and appreciation for romantic company. However, beneath his relaxed persona, Max is constantly trying to outrun his demons. He wants to be good, kind, loyal, and loving — an exemplary young man you'd be happy to take home, but so often he falls short. Simply put, Max has a tendency to get in his own way. He has a foggy sense of right from wrong, and often falls into morally grey pitfalls — cheating, taking advantage of his friends, stealing. He feels strongly about those he loves most, but is unwilling to deny the trills of his temptations. He has difficult seeing the struggles of other people, and worse difficulty seeing his own pain. He's so used to swallowing down rejection and betrayal he doesn't understand why everyone else can't. Though Max often dabbles in his more feminine side, he has internalised the toxic masculinity of his childhood and still hasn't really come to terms with his sexuality. Actually, he's internalised a lot from his childhood — mistrust, self hatred, a tolerance for petty criminality, and a save-your-own-skin first mentality. Overall, Max is a genuine, kind and caring guy with a renewed conscience.

relationships
position | switch
perfect partner | Max is attracted to all genders, though he prefers women. He likes smaller, sweet-tempered people who will let him protect them and make him feel more masculine. However, they need to know their own mind and hold their own
turn ons | kindness, short hair, good fashion sense, well educated
turn offs | rudeness, bigotry, arrogance, overt confidence
previous relationships | Throughout his teenage years, Max had a string of brief relationships, most ending in a girl's broken heart. His most recent committed long term relationship was with his childhood best friend Sarah who dumped him after his arrest. She's now engaged to a doctor — a revelation that prompted Max to find a stable relationship for himself.
❛at some point i stopped believing in god & started praying to my mother.❜
background
Max's parents divorced just before he was born. At the age of five, he went to live with his mother in a council flat in England's midlands. He grew up half-wild, with a poor single mother working two jobs to keep Max and his sister afloat. At fourteen, he had his first official run in with the law for hot wiring a car with his mates. A year later, his estranged father (now an engineer), swooped in and paid for the kid's education in a private school. Max felt this was deeply unjust: his father had only gotten an education because he'd dumped his children on a nineteen year old girl. Despite his building frustration and becoming a pariah at school, Max went to college for law. Eventually, the loneliness caught up with him and he reignited his childhood friendships. These were the only people who really knew he was, and when they asked him to assist them in a house robbery he didn't need convincing. Eventually he was arrested and served a five year sentence, though he was released early for good behaviour.
