Daylight shone brightly and reflected over the waves reverberating in the lake Asami and Korra decided to stay near for the night. The nonbender woke up first and smiled when she saw her friend sleeping with her limbs sprawled out and her mouth open to enhance the sound of her snores.

Asami stayed quiet and rummaged through her bag to pull out some food she brought with her. it was mostly dehydrated meats and sweet buns that she knew Korra would enjoy. She remembered seeing her devouring pieces of Hippobull jerky while out together in republic city to run errands, picking up orders for necessary parts her contraptions used for manufacturing different inventions.

Korra lifted the boxes with barely any effort and Asami was grateful for the help and the company she provided. Whenever Korra was around, she felt like she could relax and be able to laugh. It was refreshing to see her rough and tumble lifestyle.

Korra was earnestly inexperienced when it came to being refined and well mannered, but she seemed to get a pass since she was the bridge between worlds and saved the world on more than one occasion. Asami was amazed that Korra managed to keep her own unique traits that defined her even when she became a fully recognized master of the elements.

The rowdy water tribe native still kept her smiling even when she was dealing with her own problems, but seemed aloof and oblivious to small attempts from Asami to grow closer to her. Even when she was with Mako, Korra was always straight forward in her emotional standpoint and never seemed to let her pride falter.

The memory of when Asami first started to realize she had a slight infatuation for the younger woman faded when she heard a faint yawn and cracking of joints.

"Hey," Asami greeted her friend with a smile. "Good morning early bird," Korra responded with a drowsy alteration of her signature crooked grin Asami came to admire.

"I brought some snacks for you, I figured you'd be hungry," The green eyed woman said when she gave a small nod over to a small bag. Korra smiled and picked up the jerky, instantly perking up and gnawing and twisting the tough meat until she broke a piece off and chewed happily.

"You are the best!" Korra said after she finished her slab of jerky. "Thanks. I try," Asami chuckled and started to eat one of the sweet buns she packed. Korra looked over to see what her friend had. "What's that?" She asked. "It's a sweet bun. Want to try one?" Asami offered. Korra nodded and scooted closer to her, the paler girl freezing and her eyes widening at the sudden movement.

Her mouth was inches apart from the avatar's when she closed her eyes slowly and felt her heart pounding in her throat. A few seconds passed, yet she didn't feel any sort of warmth or pressure on her lips. She opened her eyes to see Korra enjoying the half eaten pastry out of her hand. "There are...more in the bag..." Asami said, a mixture of nervousness and irritation in her voice.

"Hm?" Korra looked up with her cheeks filled with the rest of Asami's food, gulping it down and smiling innocently. "Oh, sorry." She said and stood up. "I guess we should go exploring sooner or later. There's someone I want you to meet."

Ignoring the burning sensation in her chest, Asami became curious and took another bun out of the bag. "Who is it?" She asked and took a small bite. "His name is Iroh. He's helped me alot whenever I came to the spirit world."

As soon as they finished their breakfast, they got up and started to venture out into the trees. Korra met many spirit creatures and introduced them to Asami. She smiled the whole time the two of them were around eachother. Korra started to play with the younger spirits and climb around the vines with them.

Her friend stood and watched the interactions between the light hearted avatar and the child-like spirits. When Korra slid down from a tree, she grabbed onto a thick branch and stopped suddenly to hold out her hand to Asami. "Come with me. I want to show you something."

The black haired woman stared up at Korra, taking in the sight of her bright blue eyes and brown skin glistening in the sun. She gave the avatar her hand and she was hoisted up into the tree. The spirits continued to play and fly around, but Asami was frightened of climbing the large tree. She latched on tightly to Korra, taking comfort in seeing her look back and assure her everything would be alright.

When they arrived at the place, Korra stopped and put an arm out to keep Asami from going any further. "Here we are," she said quietly. She sat down on a large thick tree branch and the other woman cautiously did the same. When she was settled, Asami's heart stopped when she saw the beautiful outlook over the forest. The sky was a beautiful array of colors and vines strung across all of the trees like decorative intricate patterns.

She looked over to see Korra gazing dreamily at the scenery. Without looking at her, the avatar spoke. "Isn't this amazing...? Everything is so different and yet...it all fits in perfect harmony. Like they were meant to become one." Asami looked back to the sky in a daze and leaned her head on Korra's arm. "Yeah, it really is..."

Korra felt her arm being tugged slightly when she realized what her friend wanted. She scooted closer to Asami and rested an arm around her waist. They both didn't have to say a word. The contentment they shared was mutual and calming.

"Korra," Asami said softly. The avatar looked over and raised her eyebrows to show she was listening. "I just wanted to say that I...want to do this more often," she waited until Korra looked over to her. "Of course. We can bring Bolin and Mako with us next time too."

Asami looked away from Korra but stayed close. "If that's what you want," she said in a slight huff. Korra looked over to see that Asami was staring downward. "Why are you upset? It's about me mentioning Mako isn't it," Korra asked in genuine confusion. "No, it's not that. I just wanted it to be us. You know, alone."

Korra nodded and and smiled. "I get it. You get tired of hanging with the guys all the time." Asami looked down at her hands and sat up. "Exactly." She said, giving a half smile to her friend.

Korra stood up and helped Asami up. "If you want it to be just us, I'm more than happy to do that with you. We don't get to relax like this often." She said. Asami nodded in agreement and held onto Korra when they jumped down from the tree.
