I quickly snapped off two large crystals, tossing one to Fallout. She was able to balance it on her head, even as she stammered, "Are we really sure this is the right thing to do? Maybe we should find some one?"

"Nope, no time. It would take to long." I thought, How long ago was this? They could already be gone.

Running quickly through the tunnel, it became less and less cramped until, even with the crystals, we could no longer see the ceiling.

"It feels like we're being watched." Fallout said nervously, looking around.

"Then we should hurry."

A door was at the end. It was large, entirely made of metal, with what I thought was wooden handles.

"Okay, we found it, w-w-we should go back-"

I looked to Fallout, slightly hurt she didn't see the seriousness of what had happened. The literal center of our realm was broken! I didn't know what it meant for Wanderers, but it was bad.

I saw Fallout's face, full of fear, and a tear in one eye as she glanced around in panic.

She reminded me of Mary, the time when she was a little girl and got stuck in Gram's Basement when no one was home, trying to find a way out.

Was this what I was supposed to be doing? Not caring what others felt because Mary wasn't here? I was ashamed of my self.

"Yeah, you were right. Let's go back." I said gently. "I'm sorry. We should have waited."

We turned back, heading away from the door. I realized that I was being reckless, witch shocked me, because I was usually much more careful.

It was still pretty dark, but we were being more careful  now, and I could see that the floor was oddly smooth, with no dirt or dust, but that every once in a while I could see something move in the darkness. I could never see what it was, though.

"I smell something." Fallout said. "It smells kinda like.... s-s-smo-oke..." She gave a violent sneeze, dropping her crystal.

I went to pick it up when I saw claw marks on the floor, in the direction of the wall... and up the wall... with scorched marks on the wall.

Fallout gave a screamed and I was slammed into the floor.
