Firey's cries were muffled into the ground softly, Hope sitting up and staring at the moon. It was time to meet Loser, how am I supposed to meet him like this? She had returned from Loser yesterday to find that Leafy had given birth to a weak leaflet, one that was dying from the stress it was given.
"It's all my fault!" He murmured, his words slurred and weak with sobs. Hope felt a pang of sympathy for a flame. He must think Leafy hates him now. He already thinks I do, he may as well be trapped. Hope got up and silently crept forward, Firey darting up and facing her. "What are you doing!" He hissed, she paused, heart lurching.
"Nothing what are you doing! Your killing yourself with tears!" Hope shot back. "That'd be great.." Firey muttered, "stay here! How dare you disrespect Flicker's grieving! He'll die any second! And your running away? Did you think I killed him!" Firey's voice rose, Hope backing away. "I just need to walk," Hope murmured, pushing past him. Firey wailed, Hope letting out a heavy sigh. He'll wake the baby and Leafy!
Hope stumbled over to Loser. "He was crying all night!" She hissed, sitting down. "Who, Firey?" Loser looked surprised. "Well..today when I returned, Leafy had given birth, and Flicker was dying-.." Hope felt a stab of pain as if she didn't want to talk anymore. "Oh..I'm so sorry..for your loss," Loser mumbled. "Maybe Flicker is the hero, he's not dead yet, and he's an autumn leaf! It has to be him!" Hope whimpered, Loser shrugging. It's not him. Dewdrop's soft voice curled into Hope's ears, and she flinched. "It's not.." she sighed. "The afterlife will take Flicker."
"Then it has to be you," Loser insisted, "why wouldn't it?" Hope shrugged. "We'll never know.."
