Hope hurried to Loser, panting. She slid to halt by him, Loser smiling, amusement glittering in his eyes as he circled her.
"Your late," he teased, Hope shrugging, her mouth opening, but Loser cut in before she said a word. "Let me guess, Firey again?"
Hope nodded, "He keeps murmuring about Flicker, he never sleeps. Leafy gets more annoyed, she got over her son's death because she didn't want to stay down, sobbing and letting grief hold her back. She moved on, unlike Firey, which slides off the mountain!" Hope sighed, staring at the moon. "If only things were peaceful, and back to normal. It's all Firey's fault that he murdered, and injured you," Hope sat against the tree, sadness darkening her gaze. Loser sat next to her, holding her hand. Hope glanced at the cube with affection, nuzzling him. Loser giggled, blushing. "Wanna see who can climb to the top of the tree?" Hope then began, getting up with challenge in her voice. "Sure!" Loser twisted up and began to claw up the tree, Hope alongside him as they scrabbled for loose bark and ledges. Hope latched onto a branch and heaved herself upward, Loser sliding down the tree trunk, groaning. Hope hopped across the long limbs of the tree, Loser tailing her, climbing each branch she climbed. Hope's weight made it easy for her to glide across the sky and leap for more branches. At last she settled on a long, thick branch that got more narrow. A few seconds later, Loser joined her, though she can sense uneasiness wrenching him as the branch began to rock beneath his weight. He sat down, resting his head against her shoulder. Hope smiled, closing her eyes. She wished she could forever be cocooned in peace, with no worries whirling around her, stretching her heart into two. She knew this peace wouldn't last long, it's just a matter of time.
Loser shook, staring down at the ground beneath him, which seemed a mile away. His eyes widened, and Hope could see him wobble very slightly, he was getting dizzy.
"Don't look down," she warned, fear in Loser's eyes as he glanced at her. "How are we going to get down..?" Loser whispered with creeping dread in his voice. "You very carefully step or slide down to each branch until it's safe enough to land on the ground. But I can jump from here," Hope explained. "Don't do that," Loser begged. "I'm a leaf, I'll just float down, don't worry!" She giggled, nudging him. "I'll shatter if I drop at this rate," Loser whimpered. Hope buried her face into Loser's cracked head, drinking in his sugary-smell. She exhaled, Loser wrapping his arms around her. Hope pulled away, "lets go." She casually fell off the branch, Loser gasping as she clumsily began to flutter down.
Hope waited as he finally landed on the ground, it felt like he'd been trying to climb down for a year. She hugged him, pressing her face against his head. Loser hugged back, warm with affection.
