(Season 1, episode 1)
As I walked through the Halls of Southside High, I could feel all eyes on me. I know they were just interested in the new girl, but I felt like they could see right through me. Ever since last summer, I felt like I was constantly under observation.
I made my way to my study hall with Mr. Phillips, though it seems he hadn't bothered to show up. When I looked around, I could see why, there was only two two boys in the room. I sat down and got out my schoolwork. I had quite a bit of work to do, since I came to the school later on in the year. I could see one the boys coming up to me.
"Hey ma. What's yo name?" said the taller one. I saw him take off his jacket and lay it on the desk, it had a skull on it. Ghoulies. My cousin, Juaquin, warned me about them.
"María José..." I responded reluctanly
"I heard about you, you're not some Serpent slime like your cousin, are you?"
"Don't talk about my cousin like that"
"Ooh I like a girl with some fire in 'er" he pulled me out of my seat and into his arms.
I shoved him off of me and started to collect my stuff. He came up behind me and grabbed my hips, pressing his against mine. By pure instinct, I turned around and punched him square in the nose. While he was in shock and holding his nose, I grabbed my stuff and left. Luckily, it was my last period, so no one would notice if I went home.
I waited in our trailer until my cousin got home.
"You're home early," he said "what's wrong?"
I paused for a second, not sure if I even wanted to consider it, but I didn't see any other option "I want you to tell me about your gang"
"Why?"
"I don't want to talk about it, I just need protection"
"Are you sure you want to do this?"
"No, but it's my best option right now"
"Alright, I know a guy that can get you set up. We can go right now"We got in his car and started to drive off. On our way there, we passed Sweetwater River. There were a bunch of cops and people there, so Juaquin pulled over to see what was going on. We got out and came up to some Serpents that were there.
"What's going on?" Juaquin asked
"They found that Blossom boy shot dead on the edge of the river" one responded
Oh my God. I ran to the car, Juaquin was quick to follow.
"Juaquin, you said this place would be safe!"
"It is- it was. I-" I cut him off
"I've been sexually harassed and visited a murder scene in the same day, this is not safe!"
"What?! By who?"
"I don't know and it doesn't matter either way. I don't think I should stay."
"No," he said and grabbed my shoulders firmly "We'll figure it out. I'll wake up early early to drive you out to Riverdale high, it's on the northside, but it's much safer. Once you join the Serpents, they will protect you. María José, you were here for me when I came out, let me have your back this time"
I hugged him "Thank you, I trust you"
"Let's go home, we can meet with the guy tommorow"
"No, it's okay. Let's get it over with. The sooner, the better."
We left and pulled up to a bar with a sign that read "Whyte Wyrm". Juaquin brought me in, sat me down at the bar, and bought me a soda pop.
"You stay here, I'll go find him" he said
I nodded and focused on my soda. After a minute or two, a man came up to me. He looked to be in his early 40's and to be honest, was extremely hot. With his near-black hair and stubble, he was the definition of talk, dark, and handsome.
"I've never seen you around here before, little lady. Are you lost?" He asked
I bit my lip "No... I'm where I'm supposed to be," I didn't know if the guy would think I'm cut out for a gang. So, I figured I better make my move now, just in case I never come back here, "after all, I did meet quite an ... attractive... man here".
He smirks and touches my hand "Oh reall-" he is interrupted by the sound of my cousin's voice. What a cockblock.
"María, I couldn't find- oh nevermind, he found you. Fp, this my my cousin I was telling you about. María José, this is Fp Jones, the leader of the Serpents.
Oh shit.
