~GEORGE'S POV~

It's been over a year since the apocalypse started and I honestly have no idea how I survived this long. I guess it's because I've stuck with my friends all this time. I'm really grateful to have them by my side, I don't know if I'd be here today without their support. If I'm being completely honest, if they weren't with me, I'd rather be eaten up by a pack of zombies. I can't stand being alone without my loved ones. Luckily, this whole thing started, otherwise I would've committed-

"George? Hello? You alive?" Zak asked.

George suddenly snapped back into reality. He hadn't realized that he'd been talking to him that whole time.

"Yeah, sorry. I just zoned out, that's all," George replied.

"You've been doing that more often than usual recently. Are you okay? Anyways, lunch is ready now, so get your ass off the chair and come inside to eat," he joked.

"Alright," he responded, ignoring the question.

As he stepped inside through the back door, he saw his 5 friends gathered around a small table in the middle of the living room. From what he could see, they were eating granola bars and a mini assortment of fruits.

"Hey George!" Clay called out. George smiled when hearing his voice. He took a seat beside him, staying silent.

Nick started to speak up. "You've been outside all day. What's on your mind?" he asked.

George shrugged. "Nothing much honestly. Just a bunch of thoughts" he lied.

"If you say so," Nick said.

The six of them ate in a comfortable silence for a few minutes before Clay spotted something through the window.

"Guys, there's a herd of zombies nearby. We have to leave," he spoke in a serious tone.

"What?! Where?" Darryl and Vincent spoke in unison.

"Right over there," Clay said, pointing towards an area where the zombies were. "There's about 30 of them. We obviously can't defeat 30 zombies."

Hearing that line immediately slapped George into reality.

"Gather your stuff. We're ditching this house," Clay demanded.

Chills went down George's spine. He hadn't seen a zombie in a week. More so, he hadn't faced one in over a month.

"Hello?! George?? Are you even listening?!" Nick shouted. George twisted his head towards the group, in which they were all staring at him, expecting an answer.

"Shit, sorry. I zoned out again," he apologized, embarrassed.

"Now is not the time to space out! Get your things and meet at the bottom of the stairs," Nick retorted.

The 6 of them ran around the house searching for all their important belongings, filling their bags to the brim. When George slipped on his backpack, he was shocked to see how heavy it was. Damn, didn't realize how heavy books were. He sprinted down the stairs to the living room carrying a stack of Harry Potter books as they couldn't fit in his bag.

"Why so many Harry Potter books?" Darryl chuckled. "Where'd you even get them?"

George shot him a playful glare before answering. "Found them on the bookshelf upstairs," he uttered. "Guess the previous owners were huge Harry Potter fans too," he lightly chuckled.

Both of them took their last few belongings before Vincent charged through the front door.

"We have to go. Now," Vincent interrupted. He pointed to the window, showing them how close the zombies were getting.

The 2 of them hurried themselves out and sprinted through the front door, running down the stairs where the rest of the group was. They quickly formed a huddle while Zak started explaining the plan.

"Alright so, Nick is driving us out to the countryside. I don't know where, but he says it's safe," Zak announced.

"It is, don't worry. Nobody goes that far out into the countryside," Nick reassured.

They all got into the worn-out van and took their seats: Nick driving and Vincent in the passenger seat, Zak and Darryl in the middle, and Clay and George in the back. Although there were 3 seats in the back and they easily could've had a free seat in the middle for more space, George decided to sit right next to Clay. He smiled, putting an arm around his shoulder. George blushed, surprised at Clay's choice of actions.

"Whatcha reading?" Clay asked, looking at the pile of Harry Potter books George held in his arms like a cradled baby.

"Uh, Harry Potter? Can't you tell idiot?" he replied, slightly laughing.

Clay rolled his eyes but smiled. "Of course I can tell, idiot. It just came out of my mouth." He lightly punched George on the shoulder, to which he quietly chuckled.

Feeling exhausted even though it was only 1 pm, George laid his head on Clay's shoulder and started closing his eyes. Clay gave him a loving smile and put his head on George's, closing his eyes as well.

"Get ready boys," Nick yelled. "We're going on a road trip."
