Chapter Twenty: Tonight Was Fun

The past week with Mitchell had been good, crazy good almost. Ever since that night at the party, things had been almost... perfect?

The only thing was, we had yet to tell our families. And honestly, as much as I liked being with Mitchell, I wasn't too psyched to tell them.

In my opinion, it could go one of two ways: either they would be super supportive and tell us how long they had waited for it to happen, or the more feared option, they wouldn't be supportive.

I wasn't particularly worried about that aspect of Mitchell and my relationship though. So far, Mitchell had been a complete gentleman, though we had only made out a few times, albeit, in the bright, cherry red, mini cooper.

But tonight, we had something else planned. Mitchell had texted me during my shift, that he had a surprise planned for after. Unfortunately, all this week we had conflicting shifts, and never seemed to be working at the same time, though I did wonder if that was Benji's doing.

Of course, he supported Mitchell and my relationship, but at the end of the summer, he did want to win Tower of the Summer, and we couldn't win that if two of our guards were distracted and all over each other throughout the summer.

So for now, we would stick to nighttime dates, under the guise of just hanging out simply as best friends who had a lot of lost time to make up for.

"So where are we going?" I asked Mitchell, letting my arm hang slightly out the driver's side window. He had a shirt crudely wrapped around my head in a makeshift blindfold, and he had convinced me to give up the keys to my baby to he could drive me to our surprise date.

"You'll see when we get there," Mitchell replied, and though I couldn't see anything at all, I could practically hear the smirk that I knew must be plastered on his face right now.

"Okay mystery man, keep your secrets," I replied with a small smile. Normally, I hated surprises, but I suppose I could make an exception just this once.

Minutes later I felt the car slow as we pulled in to what I assumed was a parking lot, and soon the sounds of laughter, children screaming, and a loud wooshing filled the air.

"Are we at the fair?" I asked with a laugh as Mitchell removed the blindfold from my face, and I was right.

I looked around at the flashing lights, makeshift and most definitely dangerous roller coasters, cotton candy, funnel cakes, haunted house, and most importantly, Ferris wheel.

The fair came into town every year and stayed from mid-May to mid-June, meaning it was the last weekend the fair would be in town. I hadn't yet gone this year, so I was beyond excited to be here, especially with Mitchell.

"Yep, I thought it would, you know, be cute," Mitchell replied, grinning at me.

"It is definitely cute," I confirmed with a smile, glancing up at Mitchell.

"Well, what are we waiting for?" he asked and gestured toward the entrance.

I jumped and grabbed Mitchell's arm, only for 278th time in the past five minutes. We were in the Haunted House, and it was a lot scarier than I had remembered. So much to the point that I was almost in tears, while Mitchell was simply laughing.
