DAY 2
in a relationship with SERAPHINA WELDON

The next day came by sooner than I expected. Before I knew it, I was already throwing on an oversized white shirt, gray sweatpants, and driving my way to school.

As all days go, I carry on with my day, ending up taking a quiz or two along the way. Once lunch rolled around, I realized that it was grill day: the one day when the cafeteria food is actually decent.

On the way to lunch, I ended up bumping into Seraphina. Again.

"Hi Lucas! How are you?" She asks. Today, her hair was pulled back into a high ponytail while a pair of glasses sat on her nose. She wore a red hoodie with black leggings.

"Fine." Is all I reply with.

"So, I was wondering if you wanted to go to the fair with me this weekend."

"I thought I made it clear to you that yesterday would only be a one time thing." I state.

"You said you'll try." Seraphina answers with a raise of her eyebrow.

"I said I'll try, but that doesn't mean I am willing to pretend that we're in an actual relationship with real feelings involved." I bite out.

"Ouch. Make sure the government doesn't hear you saying that." She chuckles, actually laughing at her lame attempt for a joke.

"What do you want?" I divert the attention back to why she approached me in the first place.

"Like I said before, I want you to accompany me to the fair this Saturday," she repeats, "I already reserved the tickets, so you don't have to worry about it."

"How old are you, 5? Why can't you go by yourself?" I sneer.

"I could, but it isn't as fun as going with a friend." She smiles.

"That's where you're wrong, Seraphina. We're not friends," I explain, "We're just two strangers stuck in a relationship to please the government."

"Think what you want, but it'll mean a lot if you come with me." She concludes.

"Whatever." With a roll of my eyes, I walk away from her.

* * *

"Shit. Where the hell is it?" In the lunch room, my backpack was on the chair while I was frantically rummaging through it.

"Is it here?" I ask to myself while I pat down my pockets. The only thing in them were my car keys and student ID. Taking what felt like the hundredth deep breath, I look through every pocket my backpack had, including the ones I never used.

"What are you looking for?" Dean asks as he walks over.

"My wallet! I swear I had it, but I can't find it." I mumble, even deciding to look through my binders.

"Dang, that must suck. Today's grill day too." Dean chuckles. As if to torment me even further, he places down his tray with a mouthwatering grilled chicken burger on it.

"I hate you." I bite out.

"Love you too, Lukey." He winks back.

"Can I borrow your card? I promise I'll pay you back." I beg.

"On normal circumstances, I would. However, today really doesn't seem to be your day because my twin sister paid for it due to the bet she lost. So if you want money, I'm afraid you'll have to ask her for it." Dean grins. Knowing him, he probably had his wallet. He just wanted to torment me longer.

"Diana? Hell no. I swear she's insane." I reply.

"You mean, insanely attracted to you? She's had the biggest crush on you, and she's just waiting for the day the government pairs you two together." Dean chuckles.

"Don't remind me." I sigh.

"What are you going to do now?" He asks.

"Starve." I grumble.

"I'll give you a bite of my burger for a price of $1 per bite." Dean smirks.

"I'd rather bite you for free." I fire back.

"Ouch, no need to be feisty, Lukey." His booming laugh fills up the space.

"Ugh, let me grieve in peace." I mumble.

"Not sure how long that'll last."

"What do you mean?" I ask.

"Hi Lucas." A voice greets me. I didn't even have to pick my head up to look at who it was.

"What do you want?"

"Well, I noticed that you didn't have lunch, and you left your wallet at home. But I have extra food from Chick-fil-A, and I was wondering if you want to have it." She says. I look up to see a bag with the infamous red logo on it. Damn her for being perceptive.

"Sure." I answer. Carefully, she sets the bag of food onto the table. Almost immediately, I could smell the delicious aroma of the fries.

"Have a great day!" As fast as she came, Seraphina turned around and left.

"You didn't even thank her." Dean says, crossing his arms across his chest and giving me a pointed look.

"And? I didn't ask her to bring me food." I reply as Dean shakes his head in dismay. Putting the bag in my lap, I take out two chicken sandwiches (one spicy, one regular) and two boxes of fries. If that wasn't enough, there was a box of 8-count chicken nuggets and one of every type of sauce as well.

"Holy-" I say. At the bottom of the bag, there was an index card with some writing on it. I pulled it out and began reading it.

"Haha, I hope this is enough food for you! Good luck on the test you have tomorrow! P.S. I know you liked the ice cream yesterday."

"Damn, I wish my match is as sweet as her."
