That evening, Manvi was getting ready to go to the event with Virat. Swetha would not let her go off the phone without an answer.
"Why would you go and ask him out, Manvi? Now, of course he is going to think that you are interested in him."
"It is not like that babe...You do not understand."
"Excuse my ignorace but when a girl goes and asks a guy out. Mind you this is the guy who had been expressing his unabashed liking towards you. It means only one thing, that she in interested in him. What am I not understanding?"
"Swetha...I need to get dressed. I am getting late. Can we resume this conversation later?"
"Okay. But, I have to ask you to be careful. You are all alone there. I am worried for you, babe."
"Swe...Virat is just like you. He constantly keeps looking out for me."
"Okay. Have fun. What are you wearing?"
"My red dress.."
"Wooo...the red dress!! Give me his number. I need to warn him that he is going to have trouble breathing."
"Shut up. Bye now."
"Careful!"
"Haan meri ma." she hangs up.
As soon as she hangs up, her door buzzes. She goes and answers it. "Who is it?"
"You date for the evening is here."
"You are early, Virat. I am not dressed yet."
She hears some heavy coughing on the intercome. "Um...What exactly do you mean by not dressed."
It takes her a minute to understand him. She instantly flips. "You are insane!!!. I am not dressed FOR THE PARTY YET. Just...just come in...okay. Ugh!"
He walks in with a straight face. Looks at her in her pyjamas and tank top and goes. "You have this just-outta-bed sexy look going for ya."
She shakes her head and looks down at her feet and back up at him. He was dressed, wearing formals - a crispy white shirt over black trousers. He was holding his Blazer and tie on his arm.
"You look..." she looks at the ceiling and smiles. When she looks back down, he was glaring at her.
"Your unfinished sentences are really driving me nuts." he warns her.
"...dashing." she says with a playful look.
He grins. "Merci mademoiselle. Can you help me with the tie after you are done?"
"Sure. I will be a few minutes. There is coffee in the pot."
"Take your time. I came in early coz Karan dropped me here on his way home. He is visiting his parents for the holidays. Since it is raining, he was adamant that he drop me here."
"He is a good friend." she said from her room.
Rinky walked out of her room and saw Virat looking around. There were two small trays on the living room floor holding the water dripping from the ceiling. "The landlord will not believe that the ceiling is leaking. He keeps telling us that it has just been fixed before we moved it."
Virat's face becomes grim as he sees Rinky. He politely nods and goes to pour himself coffee.
"You know. I..I am sorry about Dave." she tells him guility.
He doesn't reply. He just looks at her indifferently.
"I have asked my parents for a loan. I will return Manvi, her money. I am her friend too, you know." she cried.
