Dear Me,Today is my red letter day and I don't know if you know what that means. It means my menstruation is here, on its unsolicited and uninvited monthly visit!
Arrghhhhh! I'm in severe pains.
I don't know if you know why that is so, but it has a name; sister menstrual cramps, the evil twin of gentle flowing menstruation.
My blood is coming out thick and fast and I am beginning to wonder if I'll need blood transfusion. My precious blood, calm down, stop rushing out like you are in a race or competition.Whimper.
My menstrual cycle is as weird as anything, coming when it feels like, three months ago it came at the beginning of the month; 3rd-7th, the month after it came towards the end of the month; 25th-29th, and this month it's here in the middle of the month; 18th- whenever. And it repeats itself in reverse or in the order I've written.
I've chewed my enemies, bitter leaf and aleovera that have always worked for me, but are refusing to today.
And as much as I hate to bathe, I've had to bathe thrice today, and it's only 3pm!You know, as much as females hate menstruation, hate the sight of blood, we still have to go through this, and it is another problem if we reach a certain age and still haven't started seeing blood.
It originated from Eve- the apple eater, I think.
Just last semester a course mate of mine had the fact that she was menstruating exposed with an obvious blood stain at the back of her yellow dress, and when the 'silly boys of this life' saw it they went into their 'ewww, bleh, what nonsense' rampage. They were very disgusted.
One kept making choking sounds, he was legit almost going to puke.
Another actually said he is going to marry a woman that doesn't menstruate, or better still, have her stay in another room during the period of her menstruation.
You see why I call them 'silly boys of this life'?
They made more insensitive and thoughtless remarks and trust we 'ladies', we made sure we talked their talks down.
Menstruation is not a choice, and we have to take it like that, while the male species chill monthly with little or no private parts issues. The woes of females.
Writing is an effort. Write in you later. (As opposed to talk to you later) I've got to go try to pack for school, I'll be going next tomorrow.
I haven't mentioned this, I am an undergraduate at Yolande University, Abuja and currently in part 3- at least as at the beginning of this semester I'll be in part 3.8pm, same day.
The whole street where I live had to come out to witness and automatically become judges over a marital problem of the couple living three houses away from mine. Their marriage is five years gone, and children-less. We know that's what has been doing the husband. Doing his head into making him transfer his anger to his wife. Doing his brash mouth into making him spew terrible words everyday. Doing his legs and hands into making him land kicks, slaps and punches on his wife daily, mostly at nights.
Today was different.
Mr husband, whose name I know but whose name doesn't fit his person and so I refuse to use it. (Rejoice is his name, but as the bitter person he is...) went to the extreme today and has been arrested while his wife has been rushed to the hospital.
Mr husband had apparently flared up as usual today over Fufu and Okra soup. According to his defense when being taken away, the food was warm and not hot like he desired. He had proceeded to drag his poor wife outside the house (but still within the compound) gone back in to take the plates of food, poured the drawing okra soup on her, broke the ceramic plates and stabbed the woman repeatedly in her exposed body parts. He had stripped her down to her undergarments and the broken plates pieces were really penetrating and wounding.People had gathered and were pleading over the fence and gate that was low.
When this started and we (my family and I) heard people yelling, ranting and banging a gate we all rushed out, and joined the pleading and yet angry crowd surrounding the fence that was low enough for us to see into the compound and the tragic drama that was unfolding in front of the compound. Eventually some tall guys scaled over the fence, opened the gate that had been locked from inside, and thus ended the brutality that Mr husband had been meting out on his wife. She was almost unconscious at this point and what we could see of her was blood, and open flesh. Mr husband had been in a frenzy, and seemed like he had been rudely woken up from the frenzy when he was pulled away from his wife's unconscious body.
Well, jungle justice happened next, but it stopped before it reached the tyre, petrol and fire point by the 'elders'. He is now enjoying his anger in the police cell.
The problem of their childlessness might actually be with the man or with neither of them, and yet the lady was bearing the brunt of it.
This marriage of a thing, I must get it right.
I must meet that reasonable man that would patiently go through marriage's darts and problems with me.
Moradeun!, You must and you will by God's grace. And yes, I do know I have to work on myself first. I'm doing just that because as I have said; this marriage of a thing, I must get it right.
