"Kain ka, hija, dali," may galak na sabi ni Mrs. Jovellana.
I smiled at her, genuinely. She's wearing her office attire; her beautiful 80's bob haircut became more visible due to it. Nag-aalmusal kami ngayon, miraculously, nakasabay-sabay na rin kami sa wakas. I was out for almost six days then kahapon at noong isang araw late naman nagising si Spencer at nauna na sa work si Mrs. Jovellana.
This family might be hospitable and loving, but at some point, parang watak-watak sila and I find it normal to have this kind of dysfunctional family. Everyone has their own flaws.
Tinuon ko ang tingin ko kay Spencer na umagang umaga nakabusangot nanaman ang mukha. At some point, naalala ko 'yung nangyari kahapon. On the outside, he looks conceited and annoying, pero hindi naman pala. He's got some kindness. My perception of him actually changed dahil sa incident kahapon. He's just a strong-willed and honest guy. Pero, I still need to be wary of him, he's a one curious guy, after all.
Agad kong iniwas ang tingin ko nang tinaasan ako ng kilay nito. Umupo na lang ako sa tabi ni Manang.
"Kamusta na ang tama mo sa may hita at binti, hija?" Mrs. Jovellana asked.
"Nakakalakad na ho ako ng maayos, salamat po talaga sa tulong niyo," tugon ko.
"Nako, mabuti naman umayos na ang lagay mo. Tanong lang, hija, kamusta na ang memorya mo? May naalala ka na ba?"
I found myself biting the inside of my mouth while suppressing the tremors I feel on my lips.
May naalala ka na ba?
Argh, I have to lie...again.
I shake my head and give her a small and apologetic smile, "Wala parin po, it's just glimpses..."
I don't know if my lie worked, but based on my peripheral vision, it did not...for Spencer.
He's smirking and I can feel his sharp gazes piercing on me.
"Specify, Crys...anong ibig sabihin mo roon?" It was Spencer with his questioning voice.
Oh god, this asshole is starting again.
Napapikit ako sa frustration bago ko ito tapunan ng tingin.
"Fi-fine...it's a blurry image ng lake sa woods...I saw myself...a-again...drowning."
My hands are shaking as if it's disagreeing with my pathetic lies.
Mukhang napansin ni Mrs. Jovellana ang panginginig ng kamay ko kaya hinawakan nuya iyo saakin bago niya balingan ng seryosong tingin si Spencer.
"Spencer, anak, don't pressure her!" saway niya.
Nagsalita muli si Mrs. Jovellana at ibinaling naman ang tingin saakin, "Hija, alam mo sa maikling panahon na nakasama kita, para nang anak ang turing ko sa iyo. You're always welcome here and I'm always here for you, tandaan mo iyan, hij---"
