All This Time
Six Part Invention.

Liam

So here I was, sitting in my mother's car and trying to tune out her grumblings. Keyword; trying. And I was not succeeding.

After my mother had seen me in the infirmary and had dramatically lamented about how she was worried sick about me when my two best friends (slash traitors, the idiots) had called her to tell her I was very sick, she went straight to my class and came back to the infirmary with said best friends (slash traitors, the very big idiots) and my belongings.

I could see that Amos was anxious (because of my two best friends slash traitors, who were currently killing him with their eyes). I cleared my throat and they looked at me, and I in turn gave them the harshest glare I could muster. Not that it would have an effect on them. I probably looked like a kitten trying to act tough. Not a comforting thought at all.

Who on earth calls the mother of their best friend in a not-so-very-dangerous emergency when they very well know that said mother could be hundred percent and super annoyingly dramatic?.

Phyllix grimaced and mouthed sorry. Jade just ruffled my hair, and my mother, completely unaware of all these silent exchanges, told me to get up so that we would go home. I wanted to object, but I knew my mother too well to make that mistake.

Jaden pushed Amos' hand away when he tried to help me up. Amos looked like his puppy had been killed. I grimaced at the sudden urge to pat him on the back and say; Peace to your lonely heart, my dear.

Seriously? What is wrong with you? This is your bully we are talking about, you shameless log.

My conscience could be a little bit...disoriented, sometimes.

'That's right. Lets blame it on The Conscience, you stupid sloth'.

Er, that was hurtful.

'It was meant to be'.

'Okay. Its time to stop this inner monologue thing' I thought.

"Jade, be nice. Sorry, Amos" I said as I held on to Jaden's hand for dear life.

Jaden raised his eyebrows in surprise.

"Me? Be nice to your b-?"

"Not now, Jade. I will tell you about everything later. Just help me out, please?" I said.

He rolled his eyes and sighed. He shook his head at me and whispered, "your kind-heartedness is a disease that needs to be cured, dumb idiot".

I laughed.

I still felt a little dizzy and all my muscles were no doubt yelling profanities at me. Jaden held me close to him and Phyllix took my backpack and my file whilst my mother conversed with Amos behind since she had not met him before.

When we got to the car Jade helped me sit inside and Phyllix gave me my backpack and file. I smiled at them, including Amos, who was looking worriedly at me.

To him I smiled a reassuring smile, and he visibly relaxed a little and smiled back at me.

A genuine smile it was. I was still adjusting to this new development. And oh yes, I could get used to it.

If any of my friends saw it, they did not comment. I was confused, because surely they saw our exchange. Even my mother who was starting the car saw Amos and I smiling at each other longer than I had ever done before with anyone apart from people I was used to.
