As the little boy and I held our gazes, he let the red balloon float away. I watched the balloon float away and looked for the little boy again but I couldn't find him. Then I looked for the balloon and saw it was stuck on the vent on the side of the hospital.
"Good afternoon Marie" said Linda as she walked into the hospital room. Linda has always been my favorite nurse! She always sneaks me magazines and ice cream.
"Hey Linda, do I have to get any injections today?"
"Just a couple, sweetie"
"By a couple you mean a lot, don't you?"
"I'm afraid so sweetheart"
"Ok, let's just get this over with."All of the sudden I felt a sharp pain in my upper arm "owwww!" I yelled. As I looked out my window in the middle of the second injection, the red balloon caught my eye. I looked at it for a while, for some reason it calmed me.
"I'm all done sugar" Linda said.
"Already?"
"Yes, it has been 5 minutes and the injections only take about 20 seconds"
"Ok I'll see you later"
"Bye honey"
I couldn't believe I was distracted the whole time I was getting the injections. Usually I was crying out in pain, but I was so focused on that balloon.
That bright red balloon.
